I feel like I’m not seeing stuff that I actually find entertaining anymore. engagement algorithms aren’t designed to maximize your entertainment, but rather to maximize the amount of time you spend on the platform, which maximized the number of ads that you will see. Now we all are subjected to their garbage app and ads The worst part is that it appears to be based on ip, so making separate accounts for separate interests doesn’t work anymore. I’m seeing suggestions on this account for content I browse on my accounts for niche hobbies. Reddit recently sold out. Thankfully you can turn off the suggested posts in the settings. In the app click the avatar in the top right, go to settings all the way at the bottom, then account setting at the very top, then scroll down to personalized recommendations and turn off home feed recommendations. Unfortunately the promoted posts still show up but at least it gets rid of the suggested stuff that you don’t care about. Who seriously thought that feature was a good idea? The whole point of separate subreddits was to be able to curate your own experience and instead they want to push a bunch of shit you aren’t subscribed to just because you looked at a single post? If I wanted to see that content on my front page I’d follow the sub.
