I was in a somewhat similar situation last year. You can check my post history posted on voz. I’m down to all if you need someone This is homesickness, it takes time to acclimate anywhere. If you still hate life after school, yo back to Vietnam, it will be exactly the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this same when you return Since u was born and raised there, I’d like to answer it mix eng + viet, I moved to the US when I was in grade 11, I grew up in Cantho (a big city but not big as Saigon). I had almost everything I wanted when I was in VN but not here. I had to go to work after school in the US from 4-10pm just because I didn’t have enough money to buy starbucks or mcdonalds. I only had two friends from highschool in the US, I wasn’t able to speak English well, I’ve never been to international school in VN, I learnt English from ESL classes and works. Covid hit during my senior year, prom + ceromony got cancelled, I had to stay home for the whole 3 months, couldn’t figure it out what am I gonna do in the future, do I need to go to college, why did my parents bring me to the US, why did they let me have this life, nhiều lúc t rất hận ba mẹ t vì “American dream” của họ, vì đó đâu phải là thứ t muốn đâu? I didn’t understand anything, time flies, g

Ô hay thế, its so nice that now you have sm opportunities to big companies and its great to hear it eventually worked out for you! Tớ cũng mong là tương lai cũng dc như cậu í =) Sounds like you moved to the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this middle of no where. Is it possible for you to move to a coastal city where you can make friends more easily? California has a huge Vietnamese population so does Texas, NY, Florida, Ohio, Seattle Washington, etc. They tend to have Little Saigons that you can visit if you miss home. Going to school in California I’ve noticed a lot of international students hanging out together and they all weren’t from the same country of origin so you’d wont have to much trouble blending in with the international crowd. Your English is good I can imagine you can make friends with Americans no problem too as coastal cities are more diverse and used to folks from other backgrounds. I can’t really move to a coastal city atm so through what i’ve read adapting is the best way (even though I can’t adapt that fast i probably will anyways)
Also I’m not saying you can’t thrive as a Viet immigrant in less diverse cities/states either. It just happens to be easier I would think if you were in a coastal city. But I have relatives that immigrated to Ohio when they were in their late teens from Vietnam and now they’re thriving and living fulfilling lives. It’s tough being a Vietnamese immigrant in a small town in Georgia. If you can, I would recommend relocating or going to college in Orange County or Santa Clara County in California where there big Vietnamese-American communities. There are also big Vietnamese-American communities in Fairfax County, Virginia and Houston, Texas. You’ll feel a lot more comfortable and like you actually belong in place like those.

Let buy this Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt
I hope things get better for you and that you find what you’re looking for. Living in America can be very challenging due to costs but it can also be so amazing and fun as you can have experiences here that you can’t find anywhere else in the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this world. Dude, at the same time you’re crying about Americans judging you but then you just say things like “white people will never experience this joy” and badmouthing them about using drugs etc… you need to understand that the world doesn’t revolve around you and in order to fit in to the new culture, you gotta try to understand it, not only complain about it. my bad bro what I really meant was to talking the people around me (I prolly should have specified it earlier) but you are right, this is just a rant tho so it’s just how I see it and Ik that people are different around the world and I cant just stereotype Transfer to a school in Orange County, California, or Houston, Texas. A lot of Vietnamese people in those cities. You’ll feel a lot better. Start applying to transfer now
My wife was also born and raised in HCMC. Came here for college and I swooped her off her feet. We live in an area of New Jersey where it’s mostly domestic Americans but a growing population of Vietnamese (and other Asian cultures). While she also missed city life for a long time, we visited 5+ times over the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this years. She no longer misses it as much now. I’m not saying this is you, but to hear her out…she originally missed eating snails, eating drinking food, seeing her school friends, family. But over time we found packaged frozen snails that were nearly as good…Vietnamese restaurants everywhere offering legit food.,,her school friends moved/she grew apart from them. Her family is moving here (MOM IS MOVING IN – HELP ME, lol).
And the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this pollution in HCMC both in terms of air but noise…the heat…the intense sun. The flooding. The drinking water quality is bad. Public healthcare is awful. The pressure from older family to do things (where’s the babies at?). It’s better her for her. I’ll join some of the comments and suggest checking out a Vietnamese friendly area. Texas, California, Philadelphia, etc. You may still feel a bit of an outsider as many of which were from the American war but at least the food will be good. Edit: She still feels like an outsider amongst a bunch of non-Vietnamese people. She’s gone through accent reduction classes and then some but she’s still feeling bad. We’re working through that. I live in Vietnam and my job is to assist Vietnamese, Koreans and Chinese to migrate to the USA. That said I am married to a Vietnamese woman and we have two daughters. Both of us see what is happening in the USA now, and if things do not get better, there is no way that we will educate our daughters in the the country. We probably will have them go to University in Shanghai or Singapore. I am also seeing many Vietnamese now returning to Vietnam to take part in the economic success in the county. Hopefully you have received your USA passport as it is always good to have two passports. Perhaps tell your Mom that the economic opportunities are better in Vietnam and promise her than any children you have will have USA passports and the ability to live in the US should they so desire. That you will promise to educate them in the USA, England, Canada or Australia? That everything they worked for hard for will not be in vain.
Your case is not alone. There were some threads exactly like your story here. Transitioning to a drastically different culture is not easy. I was an international student in the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this U.S. and stayed there for 5 years. At first, I was in my shell for the first year and felt lonely too. But I eventually got used to it and thrived, got jobs, and made new friends there. You may consider joining a club or find friends who care about Asian-themed topic like anime, kpop. Be confident to represent your culture. I’m also a Viet immigrant who grew up in Vietnam. I had the American dream stuff shoved up my ass the entire time I was in high school (Hanoi Amsterdam HS). I came over and realized that it was actually the best place I could have ever been in. Married my bestfriend (who’s white American) and settled here in Dallas.
Bottom line: different strokes for different folks, my dude. It might work for some and not others. That’s normal Don’t feel ashame for not fitting in. Try to find what can work for you. Consider California if possible. If not, tell your parents honestly how you feel and have an open conversation with them. Just be sure to remain humble and gentle with them. And don’t ever feel ashame of who you are. White people are people too. Who gives af if it’s their country? You came here legally, you follow the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this rules, you belong here. Stand proud. I would just add, USA is not white peoples country, never was, despite what White Supremacy would have one believe. Complaining about not fitting in? Congratulations, you’re American. A real Vietnamese person would grit their teeth and put in 110 percent effort without complaining. Besides rural Georgia might as well be redneck riviera, no point in trying to fit in among the racists and bible thumpers. Instead, you should be trying to stand out so you can get a scholarship and get the heck out of there to Atlanta or California.
Lol I guess you are partly right from how I see it.But it’s kinda hard to fight back, although I have been applying for scholarship and I am planning to go back to some asian country in the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this future. As a Vietnamese who is very westernized and moved abroad when i was 10, somehow the first 10 years living in Vietnam still hold a firm grasp on how i grow as a person. I grow up in Vietnam till i was 10, moved to Chile for middle school and Europe for Highschool. Life abroad feel very different that of Vietnam, i never really got used to being around Chilean (and other European later on), life was very dull and i was very homesick by year 2. Most of my friend are online so i don’t really feel lonely when im home but the moment i step foot outside i feel like im in a completely different environment. Even though i already learned how to speak Spanish by this point, the cultural different still remain all the way up till the very end. I slowly adapted myself to a Chilean life style while still holding onto my Vietnamese root, i developed taste overtime for western food, however one thing remain the same, my desire to move back to Vietnam. I decided after high school i would move back to Vietnam and enrolled in a university there. I was always interested in Languages so i major in that field, i lived abroad for too long that the stigma of Viet kieu got stuck to me though i don’t mind it as i feel at home while being here.
I don’t think you should hold onto the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this idea of the “american dream” and such, since you in Georgia and in a small town no less, i recommend when you able to move out, try moving to a bigger city like Atlanta where there a bigger Vietnamese community, you might feel more at home with like minded people around. It probably will never be the same as when you were back home but it still better than feeling like a alien in your new home. Take sometime to reflect on your current situation and see if you could adapt to your new life, if you really thing that life in the US isn’t for you, i say it perfectly reasonable for you to return to Vietnam and start a new life back home again. It might not have the same opportunity America might offer you but it certainly still better than the feeling of being on edge all the time.
I’m a white Australian guy who lived and worked in HCMC for 3 years. I get being homesick from HCMC. I miss it myself. Life in HCMC is fast, hectic, fun, there’s almost no rules compared to countries in the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this West, people are always out having dinner and drinks in alfresco dining every night. The seafood is awesome and dirt cheap. You can get anything delivered in a matter of minutes on the back of a bike. It has an awesome energy. People work and live in close proximity to eachother and people are normally of a happy disposition. I remember being stuck in traffic on a motorbike while it was pouring rain. Everyone was stuck out in the rain and just chatting to eachother and seemed completely unfazed. If my phone or wallet was sticking out of my pocket while on my bike I’d get a friendly tap on the shoulder to let me know. In 3 years I never had any problems with theft and was told that I would (there was guy who kept nicking my flip flops that I left outside of my apartment, but aside from that nothing). Although haggling and foreigner prices are definitely a thing haha.
Same as me, I went to the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this US to study, worked there a couple of years and got major depression. So I went back to VN and never been happier. I’m just gonna say I’ve lived in USA my whole life as a viet American, born here and all. Every time I go to vietnam for a vacation, it also reminds me how bad my social life is. The only plus in america is good pay if you work hard for it. My life is trash lol. It’s normal to feel like you do not belong here, when you just live here for couple of months. I live in East Tennessee (North of Georgia, I bet many Viets never heard about it). I’ve been living here for 9 years, and I experienced exactly what you described when I first came. I tried to hide that I am an immigrant because where I live is considered a “white” town. I met rednecks that make slant-eyes and mocking Asian accents in Walmart. I was the only Vietnamese student in my department at uni back in the day, and I always avoided telling people where I was from. One day, I was talking with a teacher about homework, and he asked me if I tried the new Vietnamese restaurant near campus. I suggested he try the “Vietnamese sandwich”, he corrected me and called it “Banh Mi”, and told me how he loved Phở. That moment changed my mind. “I wanted to bring Vietnam to these “white” mf”. I brought Vietnamese coffee to my advisor and co-workers (Ecuadorian, Brazilian, and Turkish). To this day, we still argue about whose has the best coffee (Viet coffee for sure). My “American” friends asking me about Vietnam and send me pictures of them when they go to Asian supermarket (we only have 1 in town) pointing a live “ghẹ”.
You will get along for sure because we are Viets, nothing can hold us back. You will find true friends and people that make you feel comfortable to spend time with them. If your “friends” make you feel insecure and ashamed not only because you are an immigrant or anything, I wouldn’t call them friends. You just started your journey, or the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this “American dream”, it will be hard, it will be challenging. I wish you and your family the best. I want to tell you don’t “try to be white,” be yourself and be #ProudlyMadeInVietnam Before writing this I feel like I war really rushing it, rushing to fit in and adapt but the replies really shows me that it takes time and makes me feel less “lonely” knowing some people relate
Welcome to reality! At least you win that, you just realized how shit the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this west is. The American dream is such a good propaganda program for the American people that even works outside America. It is the same for Europe btw. Try to get used to living there, find some social hobbies to make friends, sports, etc or you are fucked. As a westerner living in Vietnam I can tell you, quality of live is way better here, even if you don’t have a lot of money you can always go out eat something on the street with your friends or even make new ones, Vietnamese people is really friendly people. If you are not ready for going to school/work and then home during the week and going to the mall on weekends for the rest of your live, I suggest you come back to VN where you can go out anytime and enjoy life. I used to be like you years ago when I first arrived to the UK. Living in Saigon for a long time made me feel no other place can be home, even in the middle of stuffed London. My 2 cents for you is keep fighting to fit in the new life, life goes on and people change huh. Someday you will forget the old life, the old you in Vietnam (idk if it’s good or bad); or someday you will be strong enough to choose where you want to live. No matter how your life goes on, keep yourself positive thinking and fight tooth and nail for the future you want. Engaging a new life feel the same as being rejected by your first crush, everything collapse but you have to live and fight. There will be rainbows after the rain, wish you all.
Thanks man, comparing to how I felt when I just got here and now I feel like its a little bit better and im slowly adapting, life does keep going on lol It’s culture shock. You’ll get over it after years. Don’t expect Vietnamese people in the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this US are the same like those in Vietnam. You, yourself have to adapt to their way! If staying in the U.S. makes you miserable, then there’s no shame of going back to your motherland. Your health and yourself are more important than other people’s judgements. No good parents would force their children to stay in a uncomfortable environment. Truly know how you feel OP, I’m in similar shoes, from Malaysia though, studying in Canada. Mainly I feel like the people here in US / CA region just don’t hit the same as people back home. Living overseas truly makes you appreciate what you had back then.
I can see that, i also just moved from vn to germany. My 1st 2 months were rough to say the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this least, eventhough i live in a city of 70k people, but its not HCMC man. I miss the noise, the screaming of moms to their kids telling them to do their homework, etc. I am better now since i meet alot of cool people, but still very much miss it. I want you to know that you wont be alone, there will be people coming in to your life that will help you going through these tough times. I wish you the best on your journey ^ I’m a Viet Kieu and my uncle and aunt-in-law (both 1st gen immigrants/former refugees) used to live there; they originally lived here in California but moved there because my aunt-in-law wanted to live closer to her family, but my uncle was miserable there. One of their 2 kids/my cousin didn’t have a great time there either based on what I had heard. The whole family moved back to California as soon as they could. Considering the older cousin (who spent all her elementary school years in Georgia) had a hard time in Georgia even as Viet Kieu, I can’t even imagine what it’s like in Georgia for 1st gen immigrants. This was me when i first moved to the us. i also received a few years of education from an international school, and moved here only a couple years ago. when we moved here i wasnt really sure we were gonna stay, because my mom gave me a bullshit excuse to stay. but now i have friends here and still keep contact with my old friends in vn. so i’d say the best thing to do is keep in contact with your old friends, but also free up your mind and try to blend in. you can also share your experiences from vn, i’m sure some people are interested in asian culture! so best of luck to you and try not to be gloomy too much. it really hurts the mind
Ill eventually adapt I hope but im just ranting to get it out and get advice, I still keep in contact with people from vn and i guess it does really help I’m American, and I had a similar experience when I moved to Vietnam. I can’t even count the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this number of times I wanted to pull my hair out and scream “F*@k this stupid country! I want to go home!” But I lived there 4 years, and cried when I left. I love Vietnam. It’s normal. It’s called culture shock, and it passes. My advise: be yourself, even if it’s hard. It may take longer for people to “get” you, but in the long term you’ll be much happier because the people around you will be the ones who like the real you. I know in Duluth, Buford, Doraville and Lawrenceville all have a decent population of Asians (I think mostly Viets and Koreans.) Just look up Hmart areas and you’ll see Asians. Join Vietnamese-American community of GA on facebook, events are posted there. Your family can venture out to those areas on the weekends. I don’t live in GA, so that’s all I know.
As for the Tiger Auburn South Regional Champions 2025 mascot shirt What’s more,I will buy this American Dream, it is there if you work for it. Pick the right profession, work and invest; then you’ll be set. Once you have established yourself, you’re free to move and live however you like. Visit VN if you can, just don’t give up because you’re missing your childhood. There is no success without sacrifice. What you’re experiencing is quite normal when you live somewhere new long term. People of every race experience the same feelings as you and experience home sickness, friends, and family. I don’t know if you’ve travelled internationally by yourself before but it seems you weren’t prepared mentally for relocating internationally. It’ll take time to make new friends and adjust to your new environment but you should give it a proper shot and try new things. Be adventurous and enjoy your time in a new place instead of expecting the same things as VN. I’m a foreigner who’s been living in HN for over 5 years and I’ve also felt the exact things you have. I’ve been called tây balo, con khỉ, khoái tay, people trying to scam me all thr time etc and also get people staring at me like I’m an alien (all the time), but you just grow thick skin and move on. Don’t waste a good opportunity
