If you throw up your hands because it’s too much you find fault with both sides. You’re tacitly allowing the THUNDER THUNDER Shirt moreover I love this side with the power to do whatever they want to the side without. Choosing no side is choosing the side of the powerful, as long as they’re polite about it and follow the correct forms. It’s tacit endorsement of whatever happens happening. It’s a shrug emoji. Look at what the people in power in the US (and I don’t just mean the political parties but the mega corporations and military industrial complex) wants. They want war in the Middle East, completely defunded public schools, 0 taxes (and in some case negative taxes) on the rich and more taxes on everyone else, and a repeal of child labor laws, and consumer protections. They’re getting their way and if you “meet them in the middle” they still get their way just over a slightly longer timeframe.

I think the THUNDER THUNDER Shirt moreover I love this real reason is that on some level centrism is viewed as too passive, which I can honestly understand. In the eyes of the left and the right (which for sure have become more polarized over time) there are real urgent issues that need to be addressed immediately, and centrism is viewed as dismissive of that urgency. Maybe for the right its about authoritarianism and bad government policies, or trends in the social culture today. Maybe for the left its about racial (or otherwise) discrimination or corporate takeover/greed etc. Personally im probably more left of center, but idk if the terms really mean much anymore. I do think its good to have a “centrist mindset” for politics, in that you’re viewing things critically and not just following party/ideological lines, but thats not the same as just throwing your hands up and saying “it is what it is, both sides have a point so lets just do nothing”.
