I’ve been in southeast Asia for six weeks, and aside from going around town in the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this early morning and evening seeing the sights and a couple of group tours, the vast majority of my time is hanging in my room by myself. And I love every minute I waste in front of a screen or book. I never do this, but sometimes I wish I did. I don’t take long trips like many people in this subreddit. My vacations are usually somewhere between 10 and 16 days, so the feeling like I have to do something (maybe even a lot of something!) every single day is generally so strong that I push through even though if I’m feeling worn out and in need of a break. The most I do is give myself a morning off. But I can definitely feel at times that my ability to enjoy the last 30% of my trip is diminished by not building in more time for leisure. Every trip towards the end I start telling myself that next trip I will be better at building rest days into my itinerary but it seems unlikely that I will change my ways anytime soon. But if I had more time, I definitely would and think it’s great that you do. A lot of us are using way more energy when we travel than we would at home, so rest is important!
This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt, hoodie, tank top, long sleeve tee
In Lille France, I was having a zero day, had a 4 bed dorm to myself so i was just chilling all day. Fell asleep, woke up at 7pm realized I had only had a granola bar that day and everything in Lille was closed or closing. Frantically found a bakery that sold me their last baguette as they were pulling the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this grate down. Found a cheese shop still open and just pointed at some cheese because I was frazzled my french went out the window. I sat in the window of my hostel and ate cheese and bread for my dinner. to be fair its a great memory now. But stressful in the moment. Dont forget about the food on a zero day! In a perfect world, every third day would be like this when I’m traveling. Unfortunately I don’t have the luxury of taking long trips right now, so I just rage through 9 days then come home exhausted. I actually don’t do this because vacation time and funding are precious and I don’t like to waste either. Several people do this, though, often taking a decompression day or two each week where they don’t do anything, as a mental palate-cleanser.
If you haven’t been to Vienna, note well that it’s an easy jaunt from Bratislava (and yes, you can see the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this latter’s sights in a day — many folks do it as a day trip from Vienna). There are a lot of top-level sights in Vienna: museums, churches, historic houses (especially former composer residences), the Prater (an amusement park), the Vienna Woods (part of which is reachable via bus from the city center), the Central Cemetery, and other things. Go for it! That is the point of traveling for longer periods of time—being able to relax and just live and not sightsee every second. I have to have zero days. I have no choice. On our honeymoon, there were a few days where we had some laid-back plans for the evening, and I thought we’d be ok walking around sightseeing beforehand. But I, or both of us, would end up tired and staying in. Next time, if we have any specific plans, those days would be nero (near zero) days. Hang out at the hotel until the evening events. I simply don’t have the energy to be go-go-go. Even for one week, with my husband to help me, 3 hours away from where we live– we need at least every 3rd day to be zero or nero.

Traveling should be fun. Ensuring that requires you to take care of yourself. That includes sitting around doing nothing, sometimes. The longest trip I’ve done is two weeks, I’m usually between 1-2 weeks. So a full day of nothing isn’t really feasible. I like spending the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this evenings indoors winding down and recharging. As a solo female traveller, I am cautious about being out after dark, but honestly I just don’t have much to do other than see the sights (not into nightlife) and it gets cooler at night, which I don’t like. I’m usually in by 8 (like tonight!) and can then spend a few hours chilling. If I need some downtime during the day (sometimes just to rest my feet, get out of the sun, whatever), I’ll find a cafe or seating somewhere and alternate between using my phone and people watching. Then at least I don’t feel like I’m “wasting” my time, since I’m just soaking up the culture. If you’re traveling for a few months, and I’m Bratislava for a week, a chill day would be fine, especially since you’re working. As someone who has spent more than a month at a time in European countries, it’s inevitable. I personally have ants in my pants, so even on days I worked USA time 3-11pm, I HAD to go on at least a daily walk. I was also staying in my partners apartment, so I was comfortable. That being said, if I was spending money on lodging, even if it was a cheap hostel, I’d feel even more compelled to do at least one small thing a day, like see a nearby church or go to beach or whatever it might be. Life is short. I’m all for (if you have extended time) taking it a bit slower each day- ex, see 4 sights instead of 14- but I still an advocate for making the most of daily life. You never know what may happen.
I’ve been travelling 14 months, those days are very necessary. There’s days I don’t even leave my room nevermind leave my hostel. Food delivered, Netflix, recharge.. take them when you need them and don’t feel guilty because if you push yourself to keep going every day you will probably burnout but things will definitely be less interesting or impressive to you which is a pity. Yes! A friend of mine calls it a “duvet day,” which I love. I’m far more active when I travel than when I’m at home, and need those resets to stay on track. I definitely need days off, I book a nice hotel, read and Netflix. Only go out to eat and maybe date. My rule of thumb: 1 day a week or 4 days a month. But just out of curiosity: what the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this hell did you want to do in Bratislava for a whole week? It’s literally a daytrip from Vienna and not gonna be a busy day…
It’s cheaper than Vienna for starters hehe and people dont talk much about Bratislava. Still going to Vienna on the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this weekend. Because of my job I’m really apprehensive about day trips since I need to clock in at 4-5pm so I can only do them on the weekends that’s why I spend a full week at every place I go and then travel either on Saturday or Sunday. The nice hotel was critical for me when I was staying in hostels. I only did it every few weeks, but yeah, a night in a decent hotel (usually in a layover sort of city) with my own quiet space, maybe a pool, get some room service… totally helped refresh me and kept me going. Oh man, when I rest in hotels it’s just another experience. I love the artificiality of them, everything is made so you are comfortable. There are times when I actually crave those shitty Club Sandwiches or Burgers from the room service.
I loved Bratislava exactly because of that. Pretty small, calm, easygoing, no pressure or stress to continue travelling. Perfect place to stop and unwind a bit before you continue travelling through the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this hurricane that is Central Europe. If I were you I’d seize it and just stroll around for the day, stop, get a beer for cheaper than anywhere else nearby, and chill. Short trips? Hell no. If I’m there for a week, I’m wringing the last little tiny bit of tourism I can out of that place. Walking everywhere, no budget watching, let’s fuckin’ go. I can rest when I’m home. I’m just wasting money going to another country and staying inside. Not me. I’ll sleep when I’m dead. I only get so much time on this wonderful rock. I want to spend as much as possible doing cool shit. I can sit on my ass at home. Yeah, always important to have a chill day when you need it. If you don’t, you will quickly get burnt out and not enjoy rest of the trip as much.
Never. My time off work is too valuable to spend it doing nothing. If I were travelling for like three months I would maybe have one or two but I don’t feel it’s necessary for trips less than a month. If you have any other symptoms on top of the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this exhaustion, a covid test isn’t a bad idea. Being suddenly, unusually tired was the biggest symptom I had. I’ve definitely had those days in other times, as well. I try to budget at least a few ‘fuck it’ days into any long trip- days where I have the freedom to just do nothing I definitely did on my long trips. Can’t travel more than two weeks at a time now though so I am doing something every day now I’ve just spent three days like this in Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil, and boy do I feel so much better for it! I was so burned out that even though I’m missing the sights I have thoroughly enjoyed my three days of solitude in my bunk. Listen to what your body and mind is telling you. Alternating works well for me. E.g. taking a day trip by train/car to explore a thing I heard about, and something more local the next day (cafe/pub/museum/park). I’ve only needed straight up “zero” days if I crammed too much on a previous one You’re working and traveling. You shouldn’t have to work and travel every single day. Zero days on a short trip is one thing but if you’re nonstop traveling I would think you’d need them (if you’ve seen what you want to) Down days are absolutely necessary to relax and reset. If you were pushing yourself to hit all the tourist destinations and experiences every day, the experiences would start to blur together, not be as memorable, and exhausting to the point that you would need a vacation from your vacation! Traveling doesn’t make sense of you barely remember doing it and too tired to enjoy it.
I like to plan down time or a down day at a place with nice amenities such as a beach, pool, sauna or nearby massage spa. Yep, the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this longer you travel, the more you need. You can push off the need for awhile when you have shorter trips. But long trips? I’m taking these like once a week perhaps. I dont have much to add to the conversation except that i had the same situation during my visit in Bratislava too, i had to be there almost every day but every tourist attraction i had already seen twice. I did a day trip to vienne at some point to switch things up a but. I would definitely say that rest is important too! Totally. Even just watching movies at ‘home’ and eating some comfort food will reset my battery. I love traveling and taking long trips but I definitely need the downtime.
It’s absolutely fine! Years ago, I did a solo trip to China and felt exhausted and a bit intimidated my first day. I called my dad (RIP) and asked him the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this same question and he said travel is to be enjoyed and I should just chill until I was ready to head out. I felt great the next day and off I went! Just chill ✈️😀 I’m a huge fan of taking downtime if you need it. Travel can be tough on the mind and the body and sometimes you just need to let both chill out. Absolutely necessary for me to take down time on a regular basis. Helps me recharge my social/emotional/physical battery so I can be at my best when I want to. I just emerged from a zero day this morning and had a fantastic full day roaming around here in Alexandria, Egypt. Will probably get tomatoes thrown at me by the Thailand massive but I just came to Bangkok from an exhausting month in India and just need to relax. I’ve spent a week doing minimal trips to shops / food places but otherwise working / taking it easy in the hotel – I think you’re doing the right thing if it feels good
Yup, to make it feel a bit different from home I like to go to nearby restaurants to order takeout, or to the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this grocery to stock up on snacks or meals. Love doing this and ordering food in through a local delivery service. Still feels like I’m getting a local experience/cuisine while also getting to just chillllll I love Bratislava (it’s one of my favorite European cities I’ve been to) because it is calm and beautiful, but it is small and a great place to just chill out. Don’t feel bad needing a day, two, or even a week to not do much. The more and longer I travel, the more I savor those down days! Sometimes sitting around a hotel (or wherever) can be very refreshing. Unless I’m on a very short trip where I’m going to miss out on things I’ll never have another chance to see I never feel bad about taking some time to do absolutely nothing. I once lost a day of a vacation because of travel disruptions and decided to hole up in an airport hotel watching Netflix and eating overpriced room service and it ended up being a fantastic day.
Necessary on trips of more than 10 days I’d say. Cafe, books, tablet, library, spa, swimming pool. Good weather chill on the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this balcony, city park, local hill etc. Always easier to stomach on bad weather days as it doesn’t feel like you’re losing out on time or experience. Sometimes you just need to relax and reboot! I get exhausted when I travel. Being tired while sightseeing takes away from the experience. One day on a Spain tour all 35 of us were so tired we slept till 1pm and all wound up at the same restaurant. I felt so guilty about it but everyone did the same thing. Granted I wasn’t totally solo on that trip but I booked it alone. I’m definitely the woman who sleeps little and runs to see every site and take in every experience possible when I’m traveling. I also listen to my body and mind, learned that the hard way. If I’m feeling burned out, overwhelmed, etc I take the time I need to regroup so I can enjoy my trip. Maybe I stay in my room and nap or watch a show, maybe I sit in a park or a cafe and read, I just do what’s necessary to feel relaxed so I can appreciate the journey. I used to hike a lot, it’s the HYOH mindset and to me it’s really important in to live that way as much as you can, makes life more enjoyable.
Most of my zero days have been down to illness or jetlag. (I had the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this misfortune of testing C19 pos after a flight from Dublin back to London, and had to isolate on gov advice long enough that I had to delay my flight back to LA.) In addition to taking that wellness and self care time, I’ve also just enjoyed getting lost in local TV programming not easily accessible back in the States. For similar reasons I didn’t mind hunkering down in my Canadian hotel rooms to enjoy the rain fall on the patio in the comfort of a bath robe after a bath salt soak. As much as we pay for some hotels, we may as well enjoy all of their perks. In fact, my favorite time of day in hotels is 10am to 3pm when it’s so much more calm and quiet, save for vacuums in the rooms next door. I intentionally try to book stays of no less than 2 nights everywhere to make sure I have that midday time (also makes it easier to avail yourself of laundry services if needed, as most hotels require pick up prior to 9am and delivery after 7pm).
For sure, it’s a marathon not a sprint. I go pretty hard Fridays and Saturdays. Sundays I pound water and play video games, cook a meal that’s somewhat healthy and recuperate I get overstimulated after a while coping with: different food, finding my way around, absorbing what I am seeing and experiencing, a lot more walking, deciphering a new language, hell even trying to get laundry done. I love to travel and I enjoy it best when I pace myself. So I factor in blob time. I have many days when i do nothing. Sometime si stay in the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this room for three days.. only because if you have the time, being on the go and “seeing things” all the time does get dull. Absolute necessity! I love a good bed rot day when traveling. You’ll appreciate the place you’re visiting a lot more once you’re rested. Traveling is exhausting!
Yes! I love to take a day off and perhaps go out the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this front door and to the closest café and go back to my room and rest relax rejuvenate and it just feels really good. Sometimes I will watch local TV just to get a taste of what’s going on. OP. What do you actually do on these zero days? I don’t really grant myself many of these but on occassion, I’ll relax in the hotel pool if there is one, or read in one of the nearby cafes. There is always a day or two where I need to re charge all my batteries which forces me to stay in my room, so I’ll catch up on emails or plan my move for the next day or two. I normally try to do what I would do back home on a normal weekday. Work, play videogames, read on my kindle, watch movies or a series. Cook (if possible), go out for takeout, chat the people at my chosen cornerstore (I already made friends with the guy that sells Samosas down the street here haha) and such. Planning my next move is also a thing. For example, yesterday was President’s day so I didn’t work, I went out in the morning to see the city, came back to my apartment around 3 pm, cooked some Chicken porridge, and played Stalker while I put Lord of the Rings on the TV. It was great, today I slept the whole morning, went out for snacks, watched some movies, catched up on work, and pretty much just lived a normal Tuesday but in Bratislava instead of my city in Mexico. The only shitty thing is that I don’t feel sleepy since I slept so much today
I would love to have my guitar tho. God knows what weird shit I could write after a 6 pack and being voluntarily confined in a room at the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this other side of the world I have a few health issues (in medical remission from cancer but I’m still on daily chemo and all the fun that comes with that) and without zero days I can’t travel. I usually have one for every four non zero days. I am too tired to function otherwise. I totally get days of wanting to do nothing while traveling, nothing wrong with it. Especially if you’re gone for a decent amount of time of could be tiring. Staying in amf doing mouth can be exactly what you need. But if you do feel like grabbing something to eat there’s a place called 17’s Bar that serves an amazing creamy garlic soup in a bread bowl. Good enough that I’ve stopped and apent a night in Bratislava literally just to have it again. Imo it’s not a city that really requires a lot of time to experience as there isn’t a whole lot there. So if you don’t end up doing anything don’t feel or like you missed much. But seriously, consider that soup. When traveling long term, that also helps a lot. You take your time cooking, doing laundry, organizing things and/or staying in bed doing nothing.
If you are traveling two weeks, probably not necessary but for months at a time, we do that plus take a “vacation” every couple of months. If you’re working while you’re traveling, you’re not on vacation and you shouldn’t treat it as such. This is why many “digital nomads” fail and say it’s unsustainable. If you were at home would you have the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this same thoughts? Because it’s the same thing, just inna different location. This was how I spent most of my time in Bratislava too. I explored the old town and did some group activities with a hostel for a night and then spent the rest of the time staying in a small apartment and just going out to sit in a couple cafes and go to the supermarket. It was great. It’s your trip; if you need a day of nothing, take one. I do it from time to time. Spend a day in my room reading and eating from the hotel restaurant.
Perfectly acceptable! No one can just go go go! Eventually the This Is My Christmas Pajama Gamer Teen Boy Xmas Pjs Shirt besides I will buy this person will burnout! Much smarter to enhance the experience with the so called “zero” days But you deserve it you’re working full time us hours. I’m slow travelling and job hunting and even then by the time weekend comes, I just want to rot in bed for 2 days and watch tv and scroll phone. Order takeout. I’m like this when I have big weeks at home so it makes sense I need the same rest when traveling. Too much FOMO pressure but I always feel better after having a few “no spend” apartment days. It is necessary to have those days in order to not burn out. It doesn’t mean that you are burned out, it just means that you need to have some chill days. Just make sure you don’t get into a rut, but try not to feel bad about having some days where you don’t do much. Don’t have those high expectations for yourself, be kind <3 I think it is pretty much okay, as long as it feels good. In normal day to day life, some days are like that. What ive been doing is have some time during my travel days where Im very slow doing things, or not doing anything. For example love to have a slow breakfast at my accomodation, maybe watch a tv show on my phone, check reddit. Sometimes 2h went by. Then I have more energy to carry on with the sighseeing.
