Also as a generous tipper when I’m actually sitting down in a restaurant … And I’ve also tipped for takeout orders when they’re kind of big…but this s*** is so pissing me off that I now never tip on the iPad ever and I make sure that I always have singles on me and I make a big production about putting a dollar in the damn tip jar but they don’t know it’s a dollar .They have no f****** clue and for some reason it gives me satisfaction. If you haven’t seen it be sure to watch Seinfeld Season 7 episode 20, The Calzone. This episode includes several tipping scenes just like you describe, funny scenes all. I’m with you. There’s a reason tip culture hasn’t changed….tipped employees don’t want it to change. They’d make less money if they made a flat hourly wage and didn’t get tips, but their earning potential with tips is much higher (not for all, but for most when viewed over a year and not just a couple of shifts that might be bad). If we as consumers hate tipping as much as we claim and we believe restaurants should be paying a livable wage, why aren’t we fighting to eliminate the laws that allow restaurants to pay people in certain roles significantly lower than minimum wage? Let’s eliminate these laws that allow certain positions to be paid $2-$3/hr. Thank you saying this!!!! I felt like I was the only server of over 10 years on this thread! People are so disconnected from reality!

It’s fine to enjoy it, I always enjoyed tips when I was serving, it’s the They let us get to Friday shirt and I love this hostile environment it breeds when your pay is in strangers hand’s instead of the person that hired you. I’d way prefer that. But it’s not the employees fault it’s set up that way. Tips are still our main source of income My dude and I just picked up takeout. They asked for tip when I checked out online, and I was feeling nice and gave 20%. Then once I got the receipt in my inbox, I discovered there was a 10% tip already applied as a hidden service fee that was not obvious at all during checkout. Then when we went to pick it up and I signed, there was yet another fucking line for the tip. So now I’m salty. I question those strategies because I wonder if the tips split of who gets them and probably isn’t even a fair distribution. To force someone to tip multiple times whom tipped already is absurd. Heck, it makes me less want to go out and eat and just heat up ready to heat up in the oven or better yet heat up part of my bulk amount of food that can last me two weeks.
