Also on the other side are the test mares. Test mares are used before the breeding season so the mares willingness and fertility can be evaluated. Most of the mares are infertile. Some mares will be fertile but not the same breed and the babies become pleasure horses. I have ridden one of these offspring. Also a berren test mare will throughout the season be mated to the teaser to keep him interested.
