An our office, You sign a release saying that even though you may think something is covered, it is still patient’s responsibility to ensure that it is through insurance. Hell even a prior authorization that’s approved is not guarantee of payment. This isn’t a “lack of coverage” issue. Had a similar issue in illinois. Hospital was in network and they sent the lab out of network. Call the hospital and told that i won’t be paying it until they process it as in network as I came to the hospital with the understanding they were in network. I told them that i specifically asked whether they were in network and they said yes (never really asked). I was not told nor asked my permission to send the labs somewhere else. They reprocessed it as in network and took the hit for the difference The world is a shit show. Processes that seem so basic do not get carried out properly. Nobody wants to pay attention to details and be responsible. Overworked? Maybe. Lazy? Possibly. People designing procedures who have letters behind their names but no actual experience? Definitely.

This happened to me. It went to collections. I disputed it. Because it should of been of insurance. They ended up taking it off and resolving it It’s supposed to be could’ve, should’ve, would’ve (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. This somewhat happened to me. I had to have my blood drawn. They usually would draw my blood, send it to the in-network lab. The bloodwork though that was needed could only be done at one lab (owned by said out-of-network lab) and was about $2,500. I contacted insurance for like the 6th time, asking about submitting a second appeal (the first one was denied because lab was OON). They decided to check and realized this lab IS in network (SMH). So not only did the doctor tell us that they messed up and sent it out of network, but the actual insurance company has told us TWICE (initially and after the appeal) that this lab is out of network. Now, they decided that after all it is in network and we owe about $70. Thank you American healthcare system. It’s a terrible experience. Only if we had Medicare for all or socialized Medicine like our EU friends. Or our Canadian friends. We could avoid shit like this. Sorry y’all had to go through it.
