Centrism as a descriptive (i.e. – I agree with conservatives on X and liberals on Y, therefore I’m a centrist) is fine. Centrism as a prescriptive (i.e. – I try to lean towards the mid-point on every issue, or choose positions to try to find a mid-point) is dishonest and cowardly. Because it normally does something like this. “I’m a centrist, and not that into politics. Also I believe abortion is murder and our election was stolen.”
