American here. Most of the The cheeseburger in kentucky shirt also I will do this friends in my circle were not kicked out at 18, especially if they were going to college. I even have a friend who, at 50, is still living with her mother in her childhood home. Having said that, once I graduated college and got my first full-time job (at 23), I was encouraged to either move out or pay rent. You have to understand that Americans are terribly individualistic. Our folklore is riddled with cowboys and other rugged individual types who go it alone, who need no one, who thrive in the face of adversity. It may be impractical and downright silly at times, but it’s part of our shared history. Well I for one was someone who left the nest at 18. My mom “kicked” me out, because I was not in school, not contributing to the home. My mom really couldn’t afford to feed another adult. In my very limited experience the folks staying at home into their 20’s come from well off homes and or they are doing something constructive or contributing to the home in some way.

Americans that do this to their kids really shoot themselves in the The cheeseburger in kentucky shirt also I will do this foot. Think about it, if a parent kicks a child out, that child isn’t going to want to have any kind of relationship with them after that which is going to screw the parent over when they become old and need their children to help take care of them. Just depends on the kids and the parents as people. Some of my mom’s friends were kicking their kids out 18-21 because they were tired of the kids either not going to school, working, or they were working but not contributing to the household like helping pay for electricity, water, etc. I had former friend group that had a lot of people in like their mid-20s not working. Not for any reason except they didn’t want to, one girl would just sit and complain constantly in a group chat with us about her parents asking when she was going to get another job or trying to go back to college. Eventually they just threw her out because….well, she wasnt at least working. Families struggling to make ends meet need additional income in the household, or at least for all working-age persons to be able to pull their own weight.
