I worked in a daycare right after high school, I saw kids from every walk of life and every type of parental situation. Seeing friends, family & acquaintances go through parenthood over the years lined up with that experience too. The whole package deal doesn’t and never has held any appeal to me. I have a lot of hobbies and interests, and the older I get the more alone time I crave and silence is beautiful music to me. I get there are a lot of people who do like it, genuinely, and I recognize the need in society for at least some people to have kids. I value the rights of children to have their needs fully met & the patience they deserve from adults. But I have known my whole life that it would never be me. Sharing my home with my very compatible and lovely husband is enough challenge (and companionship ) for me. They can say “it’s different when it’s your own” but I have multiple relatives and had a number of acquaintances over the years to prove it’s a lie for many of us.
