(Though, admittedly, sometimes those differences are… a lot. And agreeing to disagree doesn’t work in every situation – I wouldn’t be able to tolerate that disparity in values with a close friend or romantic partner, for example.) some people are just like that from the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this beginning, the internet is giving platform for people to “shout” and everyone to hear, back then, to argue you have to at least call the other person, so your “audience” is still just one person or your own group of people, not the public. There’s also the concept of “things were simpler when I was growing up” which is always rooted in the fact that you were young and didn’t have a concept of how bad things are because it was never discussed with you.

Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt, hoodie, hoodie and long sleeve tee

Like if you were to ask my personal opinion of 1988, I will gladly wax nostalgic on how great the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this show Garfield & Friends was or how much I loved the movie Beetlejuice. I would not tell you about the Afghan War or the genocide if the Iran-Iraq war or the drought in the Midwest or anything to do with the US elections because I was 5 lol. Yea, all these people blaming social media. Social media is just a tool. It’s the mega rich and corporations who are using social media to divide us. Well if people know the division is from corporations controlling social media, why wouldn’t more people drop it. Do you use social media still? I use social media. Many people do. A lot of people don’t recognize the propaganda though. Social media isn’t the problem. The propaganda spread via social media is the problem. And people’s inability to recognize that propaganda.
Yep. Race wars, gender wars, politics, all to keep us separated and arguing while they do what they want and make shi worse. Then we get more angry bc stuffs getting worse and blame those who disagree. We can’t afford to eat or wash our clothes anymore so it’s getting scary and people are getting more defensive and aggressive. Most people on the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this left are already aware that it’s the rich who are doing this. It’s pretty much only right wing folks who love to engage in these culture war issues. People on the left tend to think “ugh we could be fighting billionaires right now if only those idiot right-wingers weren’t so brainwashed by the culture wars”. There’s an implicit assumption that they, progressives, are on the inherently “correct” side of the issue and the only reason anyone would disagree is at the behest of some corporate propaganda campaign. Absolutely zero consideration that they may also be just as propagandized, I’ve never heard a progressive say “I’d compromise on trans issues if we could just get poor people fed” Um, what would the propaganda be in that hypothetical situation? To treat everyone with respect? I’d love to find a compromise, but there isn’t one that conservatives would accept. Private bathrooms and changing rooms for everyone. Done.

Where to buy this Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt

How exactly do you compromise on trans issues? “Oh yea, how about you don’t get all the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this rights you’re obligated to and fighting for. In exchange we won’t treat homeless people like shit.” That’s an honestly hilarious example – trading civil rights issues for ending the Vietnam war is so blatantly the correct choice in that situation. “Save hundreds of thousands of lives on both sides of a pointless war, or let black people drink out of the whites only water fountains? I dunno, choice A sounds a bit racist” Specifically it was all the “fake news” that kept people on the same page. Now they gravitate towards whatever influencers and echo chambers conform to their shifting worldview. I don’t think the average person gravitates by choice it’s spoon fed by algorithms that try to keep you on their platform the longest.
Destroy from within. More effective than a missle attack. The U.S.A. is getting hit hard, politically, socially, and financially. I’d say that the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this easy answer seems to be social media but I’d also point that politicians, media, and influential people often use the “with me or against me” taking hard stances instead of being open to a dialog. And as another element I think that the worse living conditions we have now comparing to a couple decades ago also affect since we are more enraged, frustrated…and this is reflected in the social media part, which lot of people use to let their anger go without taking into account that even through avatars, there’s people on the other side So long as we’re fighting amongst ourselves we can’t fight the fucking power. The power is more powerful now than ever and they’re doing their damndest to shift our focus toward each other. If everyone would realize that the truly rich are the enemy and the ones pulling the strings, and that we’re all poor, just to different degrees, I think we’d be a lot better off. Maybe we’d start holding our leaders accountable. Maybe.
Social media has allowed us (in fact encouraged us) to surround ourselves only with the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this opinions of people we agree with. Which makes any opposing view look extreme as it’s almost never encountered. I’ve heard it’s actually the opposite. You used to only interact with people in your community with roughly the same entertainment, news, and life experience. Now we see EVERYTHING from all over the world. Opinions that don’t make sense to us culturally. And that drives you mad. Then you start finding people in your community share those insane opinions that don’t make sense to you. That’s how we HOPED the internet was going to work. In reality, it’s done the opposite. Social media is ruled by engagement and we found quickly we’re far more likely to interact with posts, accounts, and comments we agree with than the ones we don’t. As a result, the algorithms show us more and more content that we already agree with and less we don’t. This sounds like the obvious choice, right? Serve customers the content they like and minimize showing them the content they don’t. But the net result is that we’re only served content we already agree with and never encounter dissenting or disagreeing opinions, meaning we rarely if ever get challenged. (And if we are, we simply block or unfollow).
The most engaging thing on social media is opinions from people you hate. Reddit is full of subreddits dedicated to sharing and ridiculing opposing sides. Facebook is full of groups sharing “libtards” or conservatives being outrageous. People never used to come across people who were different to them this often. They’ve always existed but now it feels like it’s everywhere, the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this drag queens are outside in your garden or Tucker Carlson is in your kitchen. It becomes all consuming for people which is why the polarisation comes home for thanksgiving. No, TikTok sends compilation videos of blue haired socialists…”GETTING OWNED BY FACTS AND LOGIC” to hardcore conservatives Yeah I guess we’re kind of saying the same thing. It’s stuff they agree with, but before the internet they wouldn’t have really experienced those opinions needing owning in the first place. They only experienced the opinions of people around them or on sanitary mainstream news media.
I think both answers are right. Yeah today you can indeed find totally different views than you think it is natural. Like it is nothing important but just here on Reddit on historical thread someone asked me why I use roman numerals for centuries. I wasn’t sure if he is joking as in my country we only write this way and I pretty often see that in other European languages. But here people are from all the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this round the world so naturally that’s someone can not even know roman numbers. But at the same time in the past at least in our countries there were limited sources of information. So naturally f.e. quite big part of people watched news everyday. And that’s caused that they had common language as they had as well the same source of informations. But today people can completely choose their own source of information, culture content. So they can live two people in the same building but have totally different views what happens in their society. Because they can not only have different opinions but even know different facts. It is very hard in such case to find dialogue between them.
When you were about 8, Clinton was impeached because he lied about his sex life. One of the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this most important leaders of the time, Gingrich, was having an affair at that time her was persecuting Clinton. He was impeached for lying about his sex life under oath to avoid being found libel in the sexual assault case he was being sued over. Wildly different than just having an affair. Not saying it really was impeachable, but the man was a perverted predator. media outlets like Fox News, along with entertainers like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Tucker Carlson, along with politicians like Newt Gingrich really started pushing the divisions. They used the media to manipulate & exaggerate in order to create anger and cause division in society, create scapegoats out of minority populations, and play into & draw out people’s prejudices. You can say outlets like MSNBC do the same thing on the liberal side, and maybe that’s true to a certain extent, but that was a later development as a reaction to Fox’s extremism to try and counter it. Social media in the last decade has amplified voices on both sides, creating social bubbles where the polarization has become more extreme. Victories on the liberal side, such as equal rights for gay people, having a black president, Me Too, and BLM really drove a lot of conservatives into the deep end, maybe feeling like their own rights were under assault somehow. Trans people are the latest in a long line of scapegoat targets, where the media exaggerates & amplifies in order to cause division. Along with all that, it seems that in general, a lot of people these days are more prone to reactionary black & white thinking, have become very unforgiving, and quick to demonize, regardless of where they are politically.
I think because in the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this past opinions didn’t have such big consequences. I can’t tolerate other peoples opinion if that opinion means marginalising or hurting other people and it’s that simple. You don’t get to have an opinion on whether trans people deserve to exist, or whether refugees deserve shelter, or poor people deserve to eat. The “both sides are the same” rhetoric is absurd and is used to intentionally downplay how terrifying the right wing in America has become. From the point of view of many other countries Biden is a military adventuring right wing nutjob and Trump is only slightly more dictatorial but far more eccentric and erratic. Yeah. But fox just straight up lies to their viewers and creates an alternative world view for them to live in. CNN has been the trying to be Fox News lite but they still aren’t on the same level.
Forever the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this skeptic, In the 90’s and early 200’s I split news-watching between Fox and mainstream media fairly evenly in hopes that I’d get a more balanced view. This was back when Fox’s moniker was “Fair and Balanced”. I term I modified to “balancing” as they definitely had some solid counterpoints but clearly were more toward advocacy of conservatism…. More-so than mainstream was in relation to liberalism. Now? It’s unwatchable, complete propaganda. I have to seek out conservative print media for balance now. The fairness doctrine would help but only applies to public airwaves/broadcasts not cable. Wait till AI starts a “news” network, we’ll truly be screwed. The left openly disagrees with each other, while the right is coalescing into a group of sycophants following an absolute buffoon. One has the literal appearance of a brain washed cult, while the other does not. That’s a significant difference.
You do realize there is a massive split in the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this party over this… but you just take in what you are fed and believe it… Yeah this guy is just spouting nonsense and is ignorant probably because he hasn’t interacted with anyone left of “reddit left” in a while. I’m a right leaning independent and I’m firmly pro-choice. A lot of conservatives are actually pro choice assuming polls have some semblance of accuracy. Just one issue that we can debate over. Not defending crap with Fox news, but I love how one side calls the other a brainwashed cult, not realizing they are one too… There’s a noticeable difference between a Fox News world view and the others. I know we all have a tendency to seek out our own bubbles and there are extremes on the left as well. It’s fine to have opposing views, I get along with my neighbors that vote different because we are all pretty avg Americans. Thats whats so hilarious to me. Its so obvious looking from the outside at the 2 loonie groups. Theyve got their heads so far up their own ass they dont realize they are basically one in the same lol I have worked with a wide range of people in a leadership role on a number of big social issues And I always tell everyone involved that we have more in common than divides us.
I have a slightly different view to people in these comments. The internet has educated people positively and negatively. The ruling class doesn’t have a monopoly on the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this message like they used to. Statements put by corporations and governments to corporate media can be contrary to the evidence and now we can see that evidence. So we have a lot more people seeing reality for what it is and are upset with the status quo. However we also have a huge amount of people who both reject the mainstream narrative and find a new completely conspiratorial view of the world. They can’t discern fact from fiction. So we have three camps that are larger than they’ve ever been, and more people who rightly reject a lot of corporate media. This causes friction between them, people who have complete trust in media, and people who can’t tell fact from fiction.
Umm…society has always been fractured. Have you heard of the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this US civil war? 2.5% of the total population died. US civil rights era? US revolution? Vietnam war protests? McCarthyism? Thats just America. We just grew up in a particularly peaceful time in America. The 80’s and 90’s were great until 9/11 plunged us back into chaos. Part of this is your perception, people always say “Politics wasn’t like this before” when in reality it was, times like Bleeding Kansas, and Civil Rights movements, its not “politics wasn’t like this” its “politics didn’t effect me like this” The internet. Specifically social media. Makes it easier to get confirmation on your views and also easier to talk smack w/out the fear of catching some hands. But now, with effective anonimity allowing far worse insults, and instant response possible via the Net. . the original social ‘governors’ of behavior have been effectively bypassed…..
It’s mostly bots. 80+ percent of internet traffic. People need to start realising they’re not interacting with other humans. We’re not polarised at all, it’s a false perception. It’s weird. They say America is extremely polarized, yet in my (somewhat limited) contacts with Americans I’ve often been impressed by how they discuss and reason in a civil and intellectual manner. Right wing extremism. I understand if you feel an instinctual skepticism due to hoping for an “unbiased” reason but it’s the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this fact of the matter. The widening gulf predates social media and the internet. If you don’t know who Newt Gingrich is without a quick surreptitious google search then you are too young or ignorant to answer op’s question. Extreme gerrymandering is fucking us and thanks to closed primaries and winner take all elections, the combination is nasty as hell.
Nonpartisan primaries would help. Combined with ranked choice general elections would help more. Combined with multi winner districts for proportional representation would help most. Because at some point people have forgotten that they can get their asses whooped so now they feel too safe running their mouths all crazy. Let’s gp back to the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this GWB era. Invasion of Iraq was itself divisive as US allies also disagreed with the premises of the invasion as the evidence was full of holes. Meanwhile, in the US, opposition to the invasion was shut down and censored. Richard Perle and his war hawks wanted to establish a new world order. You were either with us or with the terrorists. If you didn’t stand behind the troops, then stand in front of them. Those were the kind of intimidating language the Right used to keep the opposition quiet. And not to mention what happened to the Dixie Chicks when they publicly spoke out against GWB. So when Obama was elected, the Right absolutely hated it and went bonkers. They did everything they could to stall everything Obama tried to do. And that’s why Obamacare is now so weak and not much had been achieved with Climate Change. The Right tried to claim Obama was not eligible to be President because they said he wasn’t born in the US.
And then there’s Trump, his coddling of despot dictators, denial of Covid, threats to withhold support for Ukraine, firings if bureaucrats didn’t swear oath to Trump ( as opposed to the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 2024 and it’s goodbye to A&M shirt in addition I really love this Office of the President) etc. By that time the tribalism was firmly established as standards used to judge Bill Clinton no longer applied to Trump. Yes, there’s social media, Cambridge Analytica. The Right just kept digging in to maintain their solid support for Trump no matter what. We aren’t that’s the thing. Corporate News just shoves nothing but divisive narratives down our throats to try to keep us divided. In an information overloaded world the only thing they can do to get your attention is to say the wildest shit. Because the Russians know how to play us against ourselves. Republicans are so eager to get the goods on the Democrats that the Russians can just make bullshit up and pass it off to some US Congressmen or the ex President of the US for that matter. They’ll go on Fox News and get their base all riled up over some bullshit. Hell that exact same scenario is playing out right now, but it’s not the first time they’ve done stuff like this obviously. It’s effective because those people tend to be dumber, less educated and more gullible so they spread it amongst themselves in churches, work, etc. Plus they’ve all listened to conservative radio since the late 80s and again the GOP powers that be know their base is dumb so they have done nothing but indoctrinate those people slowly over time and they start to believe that the Democrats are evil. In a nutshell.
Conservative propaganda mostly. Hyper fixating on stuff 24/7 and riling people up, because they don’t have actual political/legislative stuff to talk about, it’s just fear and hate 24/7. When you say “people” wanna kill over political disagreements you surely notice it’s always one set of people right? When there’s one ‘side’ who wants to make things better for everyone and let them live their own life as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone; and another ‘side’ who wants to control what people are allowed to do and make things as bad as possible for people they hate – like minorities and women – it’s pretty tough to find a civil common ground for discourse. i.e. You can’t, and shouldn’t, have civil conversations with Nazis, neo-Nazis, fascists, would-be despots, misogynists, tyrants or other abusers.
