Smart recovery does sound good too, but I always found that understanding how my brain was being hijacked by drugs did little to alleviate it.
There may be other mutual aid groups locally. AA is a specific vibe which works for some but not others. If you Google nhs support for alcohol misuse, your local service probably offers group therapy (without long waits) and will advise on local mutual aid.
