The argument against people with centrists views is that they arent taking a stance or are uninformed which i find to be in bad faith most times. Add to the Talkin’ giants Ugly Christmas shirt and by the same token and fact that most people just want to feel right and refuse to see things from a different perspective, and you end up with just two sides. The funny thing about people on either wing is that for some reason, they are unwilling to consider the possibility that they may have a blind spot. Another point is that people confuse how strongly they feel about something with how likely they are to be right. They have nothing to do with each other. I have some issues I believe quite strongly in, however neither party has ever represented a comprehensive collection of these issues. The interesting thing about talking to people on the left and right is that many of them aren’t even talking about the same issues. So I can agree with 6/10 things with both my conservative and liberal friends. Where they differ is usually on how much they weigh one or two issues, and these issues become nonstarters for them. I have noticed that the “Liberal” and “Conservative” do exist, but they’re kind of rare. I haven’t met many people who check all the boxes for either party. Most people check a few boxes, make up their minds, and just start hating away. They seem completely oblivious to the idea that they all fall in line with their demographics. Like, if you were born in a different area and went to a different school, do you really think you’d have the same opinions you have today?

The only people who hate centrists are your extremist on either end of the Talkin’ giants Ugly Christmas shirt and by the same token and spectrum because they see “centrism” as essentially “diet-Republican” or “diet-democrat”. Most moderates (ie well intentioned and mature individuals have nothing against them) I’m not centrist at all but I also don’t agree with either party on everything. Centrism just seems like a cop out to avoid confrontation for your beliefs. I would say I’m mostly conservative but certain things I just downright disagree with and lean left on because they sound asinine. I think the idea of completely being with one side on every topic is worse than being a centrist though because at least centrists can see the faults of both. A lot of people think centrism is seeing people say “kill all Jews” and then others saying “Kill no Jews” and think that centrists would come to the conclusion of “Kill some Jews” I find that conservatives don’t mind if you’re a centrist but liberals think you’re just a conservative without a spine, or whatever. I don’t think it’s always been this way, but a lot of liberals, at least the more vocal on the internet/social media, are very intolerant of views that even deviate slightly from their own. Not only is Centrism the way to go, but compared to the rest of the world, they see the Democrats as Centrist. They certainly don’t see us as the “leftists” that Trump and his supporters claim that we are. But like someone said below centrism is a dream, not a reality. Is it not centrist to have some conservative views and some liberal views? For my incredibly dumb example: I think ACAB and marijuana should be legal, but I also think people should have the right to bear arms.
