It’s me, a white person, strapped up with my New Balance shoes at an adult contemporary concert. It’s one of the things that I found bizarre when I visited. My friend’s uncle asked me about my college’s sports team and was baffled when I told him we didn’t have one. Back in college, a group of American exchange students were baffled at the lack of party scene and how any get togethers were largely private. We told them that when you spend from 8 AM to 6 PM in class with mostly the same people, you are pretty tired of seeing each other’s faces. So American style college culture is, also, very very American to me (as the appellation suggests) Does calling the cops on your black neighbors over count as a culture? Or putting mayonnaise on everything? Truck nuts?

That’s understandable given the history of America, it’s not an impugnation against Americans. Americans will constantly point out whether they’re white, black, 10% italian or whatever heritage they have. Outside of america most people doesn’t do that.
