The fact that I don’t like children and don’t want to be pregnant since I am trans masc. and also don’t want to bring a child into this world I grew up catholic and both my parents came from large families. But as I got older, around my late teens, I started having sex, and I was terrified of becoming pregnant. A lot of it was catholic guilt for having sex at all, but then the older I got, and the more my siblings and friends had kids, the more I realized how much was actually involved in having kids, and that I didn’t want a damn part of it. That fucking book romanticized having a large family like whoa. And I also realized that my dad’s family in particular all hated each other, and their parents (my grandparents) were actually terrible people. It wasn’t a warm fuzzy experience from infant to adult. It was HARD and demanding and gross and not at ALL what I was lead to believe. I realized around the time I turned 30 that I did not want to do that. Having kids was rewarding and worth it for my siblings and a lot of my friends, but I knew that I did not want to give up my identity or lifestyle to do it.

It makes me want to cry myself and do physical violence to the child to make it stop. I’ve never hurt a child, and I never would, but I know that being exposed to it on a constant basis might test that resolve. I didn’t want to chance it. I’m autistic and have depression, so I’m scared of passing that on, and I’m also scared of postpartum psychosis, which I’m convinced I would absolutely get. I’ve stated to people who ask me why I don’t have kids that I’m too selfish to do it, and they laugh like it’s a joke. I’m not joking, and I don’t think it’s a bad thing that I realize that. I don’t see it as a failure but as a success in being a good person. I don’t have kids but I have a ton of nieces and nephews. I’m an absolute BANGER of an aunt, but I would make a terrible mother.
