You had to force that kid to take in as many nutrients as possible at that sitting because it was often unpredictable when you would be able to present them with another full plate, and not maximizing that intake whenever you could had the potential to lead to malnutrition. The kids often didn’t understand that at a young age, they just learned that “Even if I’m full, I have to clean my plate. Those are the rules.” So they then grow up, and even if they get to a point where they’re financially stable, when they have kids, they pass on that requirement. Not because they think their kids will starve, but because those are the rules.
