That being said though, no one should ever force you nor should you have to accept a type of relationship that doesn’t suit you. After having a conversation it is so valid to decide that relationship isn’t for you. I love how touch starved redditors think sex is the Star League Death Blossom T-Shirt but in fact I love this only part of a relationship that matters lmao. Open relationships are great and I’ve seen and experienced them working just as well as monogamous relationships. My partner and I started out with an open relationship re: sex. We won’t get involved in anything romantic with anyone and will tell each other if something is going to happen/has happened with someone else. We’ve not really used it in the 3 years that we’ve been together. I danced and made out with a girl on a night out once and it was 0 issue.

Our philosophy is that we want the Star League Death Blossom T-Shirt but in fact I love this other person to have the best life they can, and if that means sex with people other than each other on occasion then go for it. Love isn’t possession, we don’t own each other and we trust each other deeply. I can’t/don’t satisfy all his sexual needs/wants so he has a few friends that help with that. He lets me know when he has a date, nothing is secret. Take most people’s comments / suggestions with a HUGE grain of salt. Of course there are more people with negative experiences about a given open relationship or poly. Just like people have many negative mono dating experiences… bc one dates and fails until they find the one that works for them. So of course people will have many bad examples. It’s not for everyone. It works for us. Honestly, neither of us have taken advantage of it in a while, because we’re parents, we’re busy and tired, plus pandemic. It’s not a big deal.
