I am privileged enough to have just moved back in with my parents at 29, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to move back out again. So regarding your question, I don’t. I hated it and vowed to be better. Now that I’m an adult, I understand why most people struggle, they are financially illiterate. The majority of people don’t even know how much money is going in and coming out. If you don’t know that and living paycheck to paycheck despite making a livable wage, you’re living above your means. Now obviously if you’re getting paid almost nothing and are living as cheaply as possible, then that’s a different story. My parents, like most adults, would benefit greatly by spending some time to educate themselves regarding their finances. I see this with so many damn people. Even friends and family members that have a wage of several hundred grand a year. Yes, they’re not technically struggling for money, but that’s only because they make so much. If their earning power wasn’t as great, they’d be struggling as well because they spend their money unwisely. I find it so odd that people will go through all this schooling and pay tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars for an education, yet are unwilling to read a dozen or two books on personal finances and greatly increase their quality of life and take years off their time to retirement.
