Granted, the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt and by the same token and individual in question could have gone against doctor’s orders, but by god that would be very very very silly to do. Sad to lose someone for sure, but for the love of god this was stupid on his part. Yes hopefully herd immunity would be enough to protect these individuals too, as well as those at risk. But this isn’t always the case. For example, see a 2019 example where ~250 Orthodox Jewish students in NYC all got the measles because they weren’t vaccinated. So no, it doesn’t have any basis in science in terms of like, “these people don’t need X vaccine” because of whatever study or anything. It is 100% just people claiming that the vaccine would violate their religious beliefs, and that they cannot be forced to take it because that would be a violation of their constitutional rights.

And for the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt besides I will buy this most part, courts have agreed with them, or people trying to enforce it can’t be bothered to try and take it to court. Its also worth noting that the constitution protects individuals based on their personal beliefs, not their affiliated religion. Example: John Doe attends the non-denominational faith down the street. They recommend vaccines. John says vaccines are against “his religion”. The constitution protects him from having to do so even though his affiliation says he should. That is really interesting. So in theory absolutely anything could be protected under freedom of religion? This makes a bit more sense about how often it’s used. And sometimes the government looks away when people marry multiple women. Like in Colorado City Arizona, with the rebellious offshoot of the conventional Mormon church. Those FLDS folks follow the law about bigamy pretty closely actually. They only legally marry one, but church marry (not sure how to state that) many. So his household will have several unmarried mothers with no jobs in it. All the unmarried moms can claim food stamps, welfare, rental/housing assistance etc since they have no jobs and have likely a bunch of kids… It’s a real scam. And the sacrifice of women to possibly die, or ruin their lives, from carrying a pregnancy from rape or incest. As to ‘human sacrifice’, note that the infant mortality and maternal mortality rates in the US are the highest of any high-income country, worse than Russia. North America is the only area of the globe whose maternal and infant mortality rates got higher every year since 2000. This is directly driven by religious control over reproductive and health care policy. I think some other limits include certain drugs, some religious groups have exemptions but it is hard to get that same exemption if you aren’t associated with those groups.
That’s also because Native Americans are afforded a certain independence from elements of United States law (Tribal Sovereignty). This was however part of the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt besides I will buy this wider shittiness of forcing them onto reservations so it could hardly be considered a generous act but it’s also the underlying reason for Native American gaming. A darker aspect was that this led to some reservations being the last places in the United States where slavery was permitted prior to its final voluntary abolition. Anything that violates another persons rights. Like human sacrifice would violate someone’s right to life. Forcing people to come to your church because your teachings say so violate their freedom of religion and some other rights. You practicing any of your rights can’t violate another’s rights. How about mens’ hair in schools? This seems to be a really contentious issue in Texas currently. The last thing I saw said that locs being a traditional hairstyle for black men wasn’t enough to keep the schools from demanding they cut it or face reprisal.

More about this St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt
Yeah, it’s just racism being pushed with a thin veil over it, but could freedom of religion somehow work to protect people in this situation? Idk I’m not a lawyer. My interpretation would be yes if the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this religion required you to not cut your hair at all or something along those lines. So you can’t claim your religion is for anything that’s against the law for everyone else? Are there exceptions to that? There’s a Native American exception to the use of peyote in their religious ceremonies. And maybe other drugs. You’d have to look it up. Some tribes are also allowed to own eagle feathers as it’s part of their Native American religion. If you’re not a member of that particular tribe though, don’t do it. It’s illegal.
There are limitations on rights though. Much like one cannot shout fire in a crowded theater or incite violence. For that matter, female genital mutilation is often done for religious reasons and is rightfully banned in a number of states. (Shockingly I don’t think it’s federal.! IIRC there was a time where Santeria practitioners were being charged with violating health codes with public animal sacrifices. The Supreme Court did uphold their right to do so however, a move I vehemently disagree with. I certainly think that attempting to opt out of public health measures, particularly those related to vacations and the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this spread of infectious diseases, should not be something one can claim religious exemption for. It’s not only favoritism based on religious status, which is also prohibited, but actively harmful to other members of society who do not share the abstainers beliefs. We are all harmed in a public health emergency when an otherwise preventable infection occurs and a disease acquires a new vector.
That said, the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this fundamental principle is that you cannot be forced to do something to your own body that violates your beliefs. While I think that religion is a bunch of superstitious nonsense, personally I feel that the government shouldn’t have the right to force medical treatments on people. So I work in medicine (X-ray), in NY more specifically, and employers do often require certain vaccinations – but there are religious / personal exemption forms for some others actually. During Covid there were a good amount of people who refused to get their vaccines and some were let go initially and some submitted to weekly testing. It’s a very patchwork set of rules tbh and I wish there was a comprehensive centralized set of hard requirements. So… not only do you guys pay out the nose for your health-care, but you can’t even be sure that the person treating you doesn’t give you something worse?
ETA2: I’m not specifically talking about the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this ‘rona, it’s the measles outbreaks in california and all the other jazz There’s also male genital mutation that is allowed in America and is the norm. Religious freedom is given too much leeway in the States because of strong religious undertones that are omnipresent in its government institutions. One thing to point out is that anti-vaxxers have been targeting some of the most insular members of the Jewish community, and anti-vax beliefs have been criticized heavily by a lot of prominent rabbis, especially because it goes firmly against the commandment to preserve life Freedom of religion is a thing in our (NZ) Bill of Rights which is similar to the US Constitution also but you sure as shit can’t get a religious exemption to being vaccinated if you’re a nurse or something.
The reason exemptions exist is the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this right to practice religions as seen fit. There are genuine beliefs that modern medicine is sacrilegious in some faiths, that it interferes with their deity’s plan. Like what if my genuine belief is that my deity said I must not pay any taxes? Or that it’s my sacred right to drive at 100mph on all roads? Like hell that’s gonna be upheld. typically the rule is any recognized religion who’s practice is genuine, and not interfering with life, liberty and pursuit of happiness of those around them can get exceptions. (Which is why Vaccines are a gray area, because like going 100 on a road, being unvaccinated can equally put those around you at risk) Clergy pay taxes in the same way as other citizens. The only difference is the right tona tax exempt, reasonable parsonage (i.e., a modest home to live in, while employed by a religious organization). Other than that, the pay taxes loke everyone else. A religious, non-profit organization may have tax exemption, but that’s the organization, not its paid employed clergy. The idea that clergy are exempt from taxes is a myth (and likely, a misunderstood, misapplied generalization stemming from tax exempt religious organizations)
If you try to sue for the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this “right” to do that stuff, no court is going to rule in your favor because it’s clearly not genuine, especially in the case of speeding because it would probably get other people killed. There’s a legal precedence that you can’t use religion to get out of charges (in this case, speeding and murder). The law can stop you from doing things, but not believing things. Interestingly though, there are actually some protections for not paying taxes in specific cases. For example, amish people who are self employed don’t pay social security taxes because it’s a form of insurance which violates their religious beliefs. They of course don’t take any social security either. If they’re employed by non-Amish employers, they do have to pay it though. But they pay income taxes, sales taxes, etc.
There is no test to determine whether or not a belief is genuine or not (to me as an atheist/agnostic its all make believe fantasy fairy tales). If all it takes is to claim that you belong to a certain religion to be exempt from things that are mandatory for everyone else, why make it mandatory at all? Just make it optional for everyone so that there isn’t an unfair and arbitrary double standard. Some religions do not accept medical interventions of any kind at all. Forcing them to accept things like vaccines would violate the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this US Constitution’s First Amendment. People do not have to produce documented “proof” of what their religion is and what their religion says in order to claim an exemption. That would be intrusive. Herd immunity is a flexible thing. Not every exposed person necessarily gets sick or even gets infected viruses/diseases generally don’t have 100.00% transmission. Some may not get sick.
It’s all about changing the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this odds. With no vaccines at all, it is very likely that most/all members of a community (“herd”) will get infected and sick. If we vaccinate, fewer will get infected/sick. With fewer infected/sick, that means fewer exposures for others in the herd. If most of the members of the community/herd are vaccinated, then the few who can’t don’t even get exposed to the pathogens With zero exposure, they can’t get sick . Would some AH be able to say, “I can’t serve Black people/women/Muslims because it’s against my religion”? I know it would run afoul of the Civil Rights Act and similar laws, but wouldn’t the 1st Amendment protect that? Criminal acts aren’t usually protected. Some might be (like possession of some drugs or alcohol for religious use), but not all.
Also remember, the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this First Amendment, as well as any other amendment, is supposed to protect US citizens from an over reaching government. Not from each other. That’s why these cases of a person who doesn’t want to serve/provide services to a protected class keep ending up in court. If the person refusing the service works for a government agency when refusing a government service, they should loose. In that regard, they’re acting as a merchant, they could perhaps make that argument to exclude people from their church. The baker won the case refusing to make a same-sex wedding cake, the basis being that such an artistic pursuit is a form of expression and you can’t force expression. The baker lost the case refusing to make a “trans” cake – blue cake with pink frosting or vice-versa under the rational that they already offered various colour selections and and meaning in the simple combination of two colours comes from the viewer, not the creator, and therefore is not expression. The college I was enrolling in right after covid required “proof” that it violated my religious beliefs and claimed they could deny it if it wasn’t something or other… if they could get away with that it not sure but by the time that would get sorted I would have missed the quarter at least so they could effectively annoy someone away. Are there specific reasons that certain religious communities wouldn’t have to worry about things that are vaccinated against? Nah they are still vulnerable, they have no specific protections (outside of the really insular groups having perhaps a lesser chance of exposure by simply not being exposed to people in general).
I think its much more of a compromise, the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this “cost” in terms of leaving religious communities more vulnerable is less than the “cost” of forcing them into vaccination against their will. The sanctity of your own body is set in very high regard in western civilization. If you don’t want a medical procedure you can’t be forced into one. Your reasons for not wanting something don’t matter. Because the argument is that you’re violating the sanctity of the baby’s body. It’s a fundamentally different argument than all other personal autonomy arguments That’s just factually not true. It’s a symbiotic relationship. Lots of women have had major issues cured due to their pregnancy because the baby can send stem cells to the woman which cannot happen under ordinary circumstances. Words mean things
Wow. Tell me you are a white Christian male without telling me you are a white Christian male. I wish the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this sanctity of my body was held in high regard, alas, those types of decisions have been taken from me. Basically the same thing that allows you to ask this question anonymously online. Freedom of speech and expression. Yea this has nothing to do with religion and is instead one of the cornerstones of consent in healthcare. Anybody, religious or not, has the right to refuse a medical intervention, and must consent if one is to be given. It’s a loophole. Because we have freedom of religion in in America, that means we are free to practice said religion in the way we see fit. Now that doesn’t mean that you can go around killing people and robbing banks because the good book you have told ya so. But it will exempt you from having medical care in a certain way due to your preferred religion.
It’s another method of maintaining bodily autonomy when the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this government would otherwise like to force something upon the entire populace That being said, I don’t think they should be mandatory for anyone, for the same reason I don’t think that abortion is the government’s business. I don’t think you should make somebody inject themselves with some man-made chemical concoction if they don’t want to. I myself feel like the benefits outweigh the harm, but I know a lot of other people would prefer to live a natural life, even if it does mean their kids have a risk of dying sooner. I don’t think we should hate on them for that. But I do think it sucks that more of the rest of us who are willing to take the risk for caution will get ill because of it. But that’s part of living in a society. I take a risk every time I drive the car down the street that’s a lot bigger then I’d like to admit. If you think about it, at this point even an unvaccinated child’s chance of getting the measles bad enough to get Gravely ill is probably a lot less than their chances of dying in a car accident. We all choose different trade-offs in our lives.
I think the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this the unvaccinated should be barred from all public accommodations for the safety of the general public. There’s already a resurgence of measles which can be fatal in small children. They should not be allowed in public schools, libraries, govt buildings, etc. I think the the unvaccinated should be barred from all public accommodations for the safety of the general public. They are in many if not most countries with public services. Attending a public nursery or school will require the kid be vaccinated against the basics, no exceptions other than legit medical ones available. US specifically is, ironically, the one that has religion all gummed up into the government, despite the whole “separation of church and state” claim.
There is a sizeable portion of the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this population that really does not want to take vaccines (they may resist other medical interventions as well, but vaccines are the only commonly mandated intervention). There is also a sizeable portion of the population who, while they may take the vaccines themselves, are leery of state health mandates (“my body, my choice”). It would be a bad idea to actually force vaccine-hesitant people to take vaccines. When you back people into a corner (“we’re going to arrest you, limit your ability to move, fire you from your job”), they get dangerous. Even from a pro-vaccine / herd immunity standpoint, the benefits of getting every straggler are just not worth it. So religious exemptions are a way of saying “we really strongly encourage you to get this, but if you really, really won’t budge, here’s your out.”
We landed on religious exemptions, as opposed to conscience / strongly held belief exemptions or some other scheme for creating a safety valve, mostly because the St. Patrick’s day beer this is the way Beer Star Wars Alcohol Shirt but in fact I love this US has a robust “freedom of exercise” jurisprudence that this issue could fit into, even though many people who refuse vaccines do not do so for religious reasons. A big picture way of looking at this: In our society, we view most things as choices. Choices are negotiable and you can pressure someone to make a different choice. But we view some things as identities, and identities are not negotiable. We view it as cruel and pointless to try to force someone to change their identity. Religious exemptions are a way for people to declare that their stance on vaccines is a non-negotiable identity issue.
