Maybe abandon primer. I have so much better results from my foundation with just using Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentrate than any primer I ever tried! Are you using any kind of setting powder or spray? This literally only started happening to me when I put settling powder on top of my foundation. This is my holy grail routine after MONTHSS of trial and error, because everything moisturizes my skin enough without pilling, while leaving a dewy layer of moisturie to ensure my skin doesnt dry and crack. I use the Spread Cheeks Not Hate shirt in other words I will buy this d’Alba spray throughout the day because my skin is really dry, so while my foundation doesn’t crack without it, this still helps make my skin feel more elastic when it’s drying, and also everytime I use it I notice my makeup always “melts” back together I use my LS with both primers and it makes literlaly zero difference, it still looks perfect, no cracking, setting in lines, separating even after 9+ hours, and I would say it’s because the foundation formula itself is just… that good for my skin (unfortunately none of the shades are a good match for me but I haven’t found a single foundation that looks as nice as that one so I deal with it)

Now my foundation is fresh all day. I also have this problem, try putting some cream on your face and then just „shave“ your skin carefully with an eyebrow razor. It will take out all of your dead skin and will look so much better with makeup on Also I forgot to mention, shave it when the cream is still very wet on your face so don’t rub it in. It will glide better
Do you use powder? My makeup always looks like this when i use it. I switched to setting spray & blotting as needed and it’s been much better. The only thing that worked was physical exfoliation – use a mild scrub just on these areas. Be very mild on your skin and scrub light-handedly (cannot stress this enough). Lemme know if it works 🙂 Primer never agreed with me so I just skip it and go for skincare that works with my makeup – especially sunscreen since that one can be a bit finicky. To make my makeup last I just use setting spray.

Exfoliation is meant to address that, of course, but sometimes, over-exfoliating with acids causes it too. It reveals new skin before it’s really ready. That skin is vulnerable and dries out. Which Paula’s Choice salicylic acid product are you using, and how often are you using it? How does your skin feel after you use it? How does your skin feel after you apply your moisturizer? i don’t have dry skin, the skin there isn’t flaky nor dry, it’s oily. i use the salicylic acid twice a week and the moisturiser makes it feel moisturisered even after drying

I would reduce usage of the active (SA) completely until you’ve repaired your skin barrier and focus your routine on hydration- gentle cleanser, hydrating serum, thick moisturizer, slug on top at night with vasaline or aquaphor. It may not be financially feasible to get new products but if you live near Sephora or another retailer that can give you free samples you can try different things until you find something that works for you before you spend any real money.
Personally, when this started happening, it was my setting powder. Better if you also have a concealer that matches with your foundation and primer. Also make sure that you aren’t using the wrong products together. For an example, let’s say you were using a primer that is meant for matte makeup but then you use the E.L.F. Halo Glow foundation, that will def make it cakey. Use matte products for matte makeup and use dewy makeup products for dewy makeup and try not to cross them over. Setting spray is also insanely helpful! I would highly recommend spraying between layers of makeup. Primer, spray, foundation, spray, concealer, spray, and so on. It helps a lot. Also make sure you’re using a setting spray that matches with what kind of makeup you’re doing. My mom was having the same problem. She did most of these and her makeup looks a lot better. What worked for me was water washing in the morning instead of using a cleanser, letting everything dry in between applications, and switching to a powder instead of a liquid foundation. The only time I have separation problems now is with liquid foundation. I started double cleansing with oil and traditional cleanser (fragrance free) at night and that helped clear my breakouts. Of course ymmv. Is it just that it (the foundation) separates, or does your skin itself look flakey? I had the latter happen to me, and it turned out to be a skin condition (that wasn’t dry skin) Dermalogica microfoliant. It gets all those little skin flakes off. I use other chemical exfoliation too but when I have a ton of little flakes like this I need microfoliant. My nose is the one place on my face that neverrr looked good! It was also covering my natural freckles that I’d draw back on. The rest of my face makeup would be great all day so I just stopped putting anything on my nose! I use a little bit of a glowy primer or a highlight just so it doesn’t look out of place if i have on a full face. Give it a try one day !

I found exfoliating helped a lot on the nose, and when I use foundation or concealer I leave my nose and mouth area til last and just use the leftover from my sponge for those areas rather than a proper layer, so using less product helps so it doesn’t cling to anything there If you’re feeling a lil experimental you could also try dermaplaning Moisturize early in the morning, go do something else and forget about it. That’ll give it plenty of time to soak into your skin. I also spritz my beauty blender with a setting spray, dab a layer of that over my face first, let it sit for a minute, and THEN apply foundation. This keeps everything in place and I haven’t had any separation issues since I’ve been doing this. I swear by it.
I had this same problem until I switched from a brush to a damp beauty blender and now I never have this issue. So I suggest trying that if you haven’t! Everyone here seems to have really smart answers but I recently experienced this where mine was separating especially around my upper lip and forehead (sweaty areas, gross) for the Spread Cheeks Not Hate shirt in other words I will buy this last few months.
