Movie theaters need subtitles. I saw Dr Strange today and I could hardly hear and understand half the Sonic my job is real my smile is fake Stitch shirt But I will love this dialoge. Maybe it’s because I’m used to subtitles at home but movies at theaters are so hard for hear. Ask the cinema for a subtitle device and they may have it. We have them and headphones that play descriptive video for blind people in every cinema in Canada by law so everyone can watch in comfort. I live in Europe and every movie here has subtitles, sometimes even in multiple languages at once. It’s pretty cool. I would hate to have subtitles going in a movie theatre. Could you perhaps compromise and settle for some augmented reality headsets that display the subtitles on the screen as you watch? Could even change the language if need be.

They also have on screen subs now at every major change with marked showtimes for those even. I don’t know if you need them for the whole soundtrack, but it would be helpful for the dialogue, both to not listen to annoying neighbors in the theater but also because they mix a lot of movies where the voices are overpowered by the music and sound effects. (Christopher Nolan being an obvious offender) This is the real winning idea. Isolate the vocal track and provide the option to have that one your Bluetooth speakers. Most headphones let in enough noise that if all that was playing was dialogue, you’d still hear the soundtrack and the random Foley noises, but you’d actually hear the dialogue, too. Sound mixing nowadays, especially for blockbusters is too dynamic for most low end theater equipment. Doubly so if you consider how old most of that equipment is, and how many hours most of those speakers have on them. This is what’s wrong with the world today. People out there prefer shitty Bluetooth audio to really good audio.
