What I hear often (and have seen) is people build up a tolerance to the Society Says I Am Autistic God Says I Am Perfect Puzzle Heart Autism Awareness T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this pain medication, so they need more…then they develop a tolerance to that dose and it isn’t enough anymore, so they need more…until they’re on the max dose, so now you need a stronger drug…yeah, I’ve watched relatives go through this and I don’t want that to be me. I seem to be…sensitive to them. Don’t know why, not sure if there’s allergies or intolerances or what, but I’m sensitive to them. If I take ibuprofen, I feel iffy and dizzy, and I’ve actually had my gums bleed after a day. If I take paracetamol, any more than one tablet, even spaced out, and I get nauseous and I feel almost flu-like but no fever or signs of allergy, just that weird body fuzziness and this horrible background nausea. If I take the recommended dose for a few days, I vomit. So, god knows what’s going on, but because of this, I have to be in the kind of pain that’s bad enough to make me panic or feel so intense I can’t think straight and struggle to move. Codeine is a no-go, I had half a co-codamol and within the hour, it was like my body was on fire, severe stomach pain, sweating like mad, nausea, tachycardia, palpitations…yeah, not fun. Pretty sure a full dose would’ve put me in hospital.

Also, pain meds are designed to mask pain, and it’s a problem some people have where because their pain is relieved, they overdo it. It’s an issue that has to be taken into account in sports quite often. I have unstable joints, and I’m prone to twisting and spraining, but I’ve dislocated my patella before (went right back in) and I always, always go without pain meds.
