Abandon pacing! I promise you I could do a whole year on the Renaissance even with a class that meets every day of the week like AP World Class. Moreover, everyone I know from grad school, from ancient to modern historians, could do the same for their subject matter. Reducing the entirety of the Renaissance to a 3 week chunk robs it of everything, which is true of every other period covered by World/Euro history courses. The overall point was there’s no mastery, no time for writing, no time to fully embrace the nuances of any time period or people. I cannot tell you how many times I had students in college tell me they would have liked history more if they learned all this “other stuff” that gets ripped out of our curricula as k-12 teachers.
