The cessation of thought will simply come about when you are in a state where no thought is necessary. This is usually fleeting, not the Sloth Hiking Team We Will Get There When We Get There Vintage T-Shirt in other words I will buy this entire meditation. As you practice mindfulness of all the things around you, your brain will devote less and less resource to analyzing them, and eventually stop bringing them up to you with urgency in thoughts. There is an unlimited amount of goals one can have when meditating. Have you ever tried mediating on a certain topic or relationship or feeling that you’ve noticed comes up a lot for you ? Focused mediation I find is more transformational than simply becoming aware of the infinite mind or eliminating thoughts, although these could be goals for someone who is meditating. Where do we go from there and what insights do you find along the way? The deepest truths are found within a meditative state and this wouldn’t be possible without thought, that’s forsure. Being intentional is the key. So ask yourself what is your intention before entering meditation.

When I get mad at myself for not having a quiet mind during meditation, I try to tell myself that noticing all of those thoughts was an accomplishment on its own, since my mind is running like that all day unnoticed. I am quite sure that the Sloth Hiking Team We Will Get There When We Get There Vintage T-Shirt in other words I will buy this purpose of meditation Is to quiet and still the mind. Meaning, having no thoughts. Controlling your mind. It puts you into a psychic receptive mode. It makes you completely present in the now. For me meditation is a mere tool, active meditation helps me follow thoughts and passive meditation allows me to ignore thoughts. There may be times when there is no thought and we should observe that without attachment just like anything else. There are many types. People here talk about meditation and forget to mention that fact. This leads to endless confsusion and sometimes heated discussions. The truth is that there must be different endpoints. In focus the mind narrows to a monotone. So, the endpoint of focus is the montone eg counting the breath. Counting the breath will prevent the mind from becoming completely still. In relaxation (Dr Meares method) the mind slows down and then stills. In stillness there is an absence of thought or disturbance. This may seem hard to understand but it occurs. Actually, you only realise afterwards, when you have finished, that the mind has been still. Refer Dr Meares books, if of interest, he wrote many of them. He explains his method in a couple. Meares passed away and his books are only available secondhand, some are harder to get. So, usually I suggest Ainslie Meares on Meditation as it is available from the usual retailers and contains Meres explannation and instructions on his complete method.
