The one I’ve actually seen is a boys team where it was essentially a casual match against the SJC custom drums shirt and I will buy this US women’s team that was used more for the purpose of teaching than actual competition, but which people seem to just run with without any context. Is there much data showing transgender girls have a competitive advantage over cis girls after going on hormones? It depends on the specific sport and how long they’ve been on hormones. In swimming for example it seems to be pretty even. Lia Thomas, that trans swimmer that had all conservatives crawling up the walls a few years back is an excellent case study. She was an exceptional swimmer before she started her transition, she consistently placed top 6 in men’s swimming. When she started her transition she had to keep playing in the men’s league for several years before she was allowed to compete in the womens league. Predictably, the hormone treatments absolutely demolished her performance and she ranked like 500th in the mens league for a while. Then she was allowed into the womens league and is back to being one of the top swimmers.

Almost all of those articles about how she was ruining sports forever were trying to push an agenda and conveniently left out the SJC custom drums shirt and I will buy this whole “top 6 swimmer pre transition” part, making it seem as if a mediocre swimmer cheated her way to the top. When if anything, looking at the whole timeline, it seems pretty well tuned. She started out at the top, and now she is back near the top as the other gender. If anything its a testament to how well the swimming championship has this transition thing balanced. I believe there is some info on trans people in strength related sports having a minor advantage (as in, a few tenths of a percent) even after several years of hormone treatment. But honestly, I can’t bring myself to care much. Sports has always been about unfair genetic freaks pushing the limits of what humans can do, I see no reason to exclude trans people on grounds of fairness over that minor advantage. Just have them be on hormones for a couple of years and let them compete.
