Then I hit 30 and became an adult. i’m more careful in general since turning 30 too. something about my partner & dogs relying on me shifted things. glad ur taking things slower. If you have a wide open highway with barely anyone on it, it’s fun to make yourself go fast. It’s dangerous if you’re swerving in between cars during rush hour or something like that, but just going fast on the open road is a col feeling. I did when I was 17 years old. Life was great. Then I grew up. I’ll speed on long road trips when it’s worth it I’m saying this as someone who was once severely depressed. I was suicidal, but I didn’t actually attempt it. However, I intentionally put myself in situations that could potentially kill me. I grew up in the middle of nowhere, where I would cruise on the back roads going over 80 MPH on the winding roads. So, weaving through the highway traffic didn’t seem that hazardous to me. I regularly go 90+ on the highway when it’s relatively safe to do so. Speeding I’m fine with but there’s a place and time. Swerving in and out of traffic to get maybe 3 minutes ahead of schedule I don’t get. I mean are speed limits are way to slow, unless you drive a very old car even a budget car can handle speeds of 80+ without much difficulty. My comfortable speed is around 83mph but I also don’t like to be around other cars. So when I come across someone in the leftmost lane doing the same speed as the car next to them I just gotta get around all those cars. Well until I find the next guy going slow in the left lane and the surrounding traffic he’s causing. I find when there’s hardly any other cars on the freeway I actually drive a lot slower. I feel like there would be a lot less traffic and dangerous maneuvers to get around it if slow drivers just kept to the right lanes. It’s always a white Tesla or Prius too

What is your life like? Where I live I see this more often than crazy people doing 90. When I was younger, I would speed all the time. I had a “fuck it” mindset to where I didn’t care about a ticket or anyone else. It was an adrenaline rush for me. I was humbled, I got into an accident where I wasn’t even speeding and it ripped my car in half. Could have lost my life. Today I respectfully drive the speed limit. Occasionally I will go a little over, but nowhere near as I use to I live in Chicago and on 94. That’s just the flow of traffic. People do 75 in the right hand lane and they’re going slow being passed by trucks.
OK so when I was in my late teens/ early 20s I got a pretty fast car. I was a courier for a company that did print ads and had hard deadlines and would haul ass to get them in time, usually succeeding. What I did was age, and start thinking of the fact that the way I felt about my daughter was how the other people in those cars thought about their kids, and parents, and loved ones, and how even if they were assholes, they were people. I got rid of the fast car, eventually. I ended up getting a truck that COULD NOT go fast. I’m currently in a Prius. Great mileage, lots of space, feels safe. I see other people driving like I used to and hope desperately they think about what can happen. I regret driving like a complete and total asshole, which is what I was back then. I do not do it anymore, and wish I could go back in time and not do it then.

As I approached the scene, there was one kid that was on a gurney.. he was drenched in blood.. I thought that was the worst of it. The car was upside down.. And inside was a girl that looked like she was bent over backwards. I don’t mean slightly, either. I mean like folded in half.. And crammed under the dash. I don’t remember how fast they were going.. but I was told by the attending officers.. that they were racing. Does it matter? No.. All that matters is.. they were assholes. I did that when I was younger. Wasn’t super concerned with the speed limits, and loved driving fast just felt fun. Countless tickets and a suspended license later, along with maturing and learning about the whole action consequences thing, I chilled tf out. Most of the people who speed on the highway by me have cars that reek of weed, temp plates, and get on/off at exits in bad parts of town. I have a really bad back and driving hurts. When I’ve done it (and I’m ashamed of it) I get in my own head about the pain and want to get to where I’m going. I don’t weave a lot but I will drive fast and if you sit in left lane forever not passing I may put my hands in air and shake my head like “wtf? it’s the passing lane!”. I don’t tailgate and I don’t flip you off but my heart rate quickens and it does make me mad.
Most days I’m fine. I have music on and I chill but every once in a while when I’ve been dealing with a lot of pain and I’m far from my destination I lose my patience. No one would insure me. Took a habitual offenders class. I sobered up.

My morning commute is early with relatively sparse traffic. I’m on 55mph roads for about 10 min then a 65mph highway for another 20 min. I’m usually going 65mph in the 55mph zone with people tailgating me and weaving around trying to pass. It’s stupid because the highway is relatively crowded. However, when it opens up to 65mph, it’s 3-4 lanes. I usually accelerate up to about 90mph at half throttle or so. The same people who were weaving around tail gating me are usually keeping up. They’ll usually try to eek up to 95ish to try and pass. That’s when I usually bury the throttle up to about 120-130. They’ll usually hang on until about 110. The rest of the commute is going around people who camp in the left lane at 80-90ish and refuse to move. Why do I do it? I really don’t know all the reasons but I do enjoy the rush. I also believe in committing to something 110%. So if you’re gonna speed, speed. Don’t pussy foot around.
