I didn’t know Starbucks had a rechargeable card you can use like that. Heh, I bet they’ve scared the shit out of LAOP. They’ve scared LAOP, but I really doubt Starbucks actually care – they probably have loads of them as gifts for clients, contractors etc. Worst that’s going to happen is someone from their social media team notices & passes it on internally to accounting who stop reloading it if they can work out which one it is IMO. Starbucks doesn’t care. The theft is from whatever company/ person is reloading the card. Starbucks is getting their money. FWIW, there are cards like that, but I don’t know if they have a cash balance. QuikTrip has a card that lets you get unlimited free coffee as long as you have the physical card to scan.

OP didn’t seem anxiety-riddled and had made a reasonable assumption that the card was corporately (vs privately) owned and loaded. Lots of people are happy to reap rewards of a corporate error (not inactivating the card, pricing something too low, online ordering “hacks” that get you a discount, etc) and assume a victimless crime in the noise of a corporate budget. It’s definitely illegal to use a found gift card, but it would be considered theft, not fraud as many are suggesting. OP is not misrepresenting themselves when using the gift card, and they are not engaging in any activity to move money into the account, so I don’t think they would be convicted of anything beyond theft. OP should stop using the card and delete their post and account (It’s not a throwaway? moron) and hope no one connects this back to them irl.
