As a young kid I’ve had a severe alergy to dust mites, which are found in normal dust. My dad verbally abused me and then gave me the silent treatment for two weeks when I told him I wanted to study languages instead of sciences, saying that I’d end up as a poor Spanish teacher. We’re on good terms now but it’s a pain I will never really get over because I know that he’ll never truly approve of me. Ofc I want my kids to be comfortable but it’s a myth that only STEM courses lead to successful careers and there’s NO POINT in forcing yourself into a career you don’t want and ending up miserable. We don’t “own” kids, they’re people in their own right and, unless they’re completely confused and want help deciding, parents shouldn’t have a place in such decisions.
