Instead of saying “I’m a venter and fuck you!” think long and hard about why you’re this way, acknowledge that this can be toxic in excess, and learn to choose your battles. I think you need to find someone outside of your situation to vent to. Your wife also has ADHD, and as much as you feel like she’s invalidating you, you’re absolutely invalidating her. You want her to respond to your communication in a specific way, but you need to compromise. Be considerate of how task-oriented her thinking is, of how putting something on her radar is going to prompt action whether you’re venting or not. Many ADHDers really struggle with staying idle while aware of a task at hand. Telling her to shut that down because it’s not the Shakedown Street Grateful Dead Shirt and by the same token and specific response you need is also very invalidating. “No no, you put your ADHD in time out, you’ll be fine. It’s my time. I will only accept commiseration.”

Shakedown Street Grateful Dead Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

Women run into this so often with men it’s kinda interesting to see it in reverse. The solution we’ve been given is to just say so. “I need a sympathetic ear, not a solution.” And learn/teach to respectfully ask that question when she is having a hard time so you model what you need and make it easier for her to do the Shakedown Street Grateful Dead Shirt and by the same token and same. I personally hate this, I don’t vent unless I’m looking for help. But if you don’t want help, make it clear that you’re just trying to get it off your chest have you ever considered that listening to you complain about something that you or your partner can fix makes her lose respect for you and she might be doing this to try and mitigate her own feelings? have you ever asked her how listening to you complain about things that you guys could fix makes her feel? Doesn’t A just prove the point about sex roles? I have never in my life heard of a man who would rather simply be heard rather than discuss solutions. But very often women say it.
