Longest commutes I’ve seen are Crewe to Southwark and Macclesfield to Euston. Plenty come from Birmingham, Coventry and Rugby to London most days. I used to commute a few days a week from York into Liverpool Street – it was one of my favourite journeys – about 2.5 hours door to door – plus I could pick up a bacon sandwich, orange juice and coffee at the West Cornwall Pasty Co – now some kind of gin shop…. Imagine if the economy was more spreadout. This discussion wouldn’t happen and the country would be richer for it. In early 2000’s I worked near city airport with a few people that came in from Birmingham. Made no sense to me. Ooh I’ve got one my University lecturer used to commute from Switzerland. He would stay 3 days in his flat in London teach and then fly back. He would often joke that the TFL fare from his west London flat to the university in east London costs him more than his flight from Switzerland to London! 271 more repliesI used to work a week a year there (Certain Underwriters clients), from New Orleans, Louisiana. I fly from Heathrow and I live around 20 mins away, 45 mins door to door. But I have colleagues who also fly that commute from Amsterdam, Denmark, Birmingham, Coventry etc.. the farthest colleague lives in Hong Kong and comes to work every 4-5 days

Had to travel almost 2h one way while entire team in the Seth Jarvis Jarvy shirt it is in the first place but store had covid so that was thought couple of weeks 20 mins on a bike – would take an hour on TFL. Would literally rather die than travel on TFL daily for more than 10 minutes Hackney to White city 60ish mins~, will have 3 – days to full remote weeks starting 2024 which rotate weekly. I’m in my second month at this job and still learning . I’m used to travel from south of tunbridge wells on and off (but a five day week) for ten years which at worse was 2.5 hrs each way but most of the time was between 1.5-2 hrs each way. I know people who came in from further down the train line. I used to travel from New Cross to a place near Kew every day, that was horrible. Averaged out to be 75 minutes each way, unless things went wrong (and they often did). My commute is about hour and a half each way but I don’t pay for it, the company does so atleast that’s something. So no travel cost at all. About 2 hrs myself on a good day 45 mins of walking and 20 mins tube then 50 mins of train (5mins or so waiting on connection). I commuted daily from Dudley to London. Started at Tipton Railway Station (after 10min car commute) and ended at Denmark Hill Station. Door-to-door, about 3.5 to 4-hours one-way. Sometimes slightly quicker on the way back home, about 2.5-hours (could be 3.5-hrs though if I didn’t get a Virgin train).
