4. The mind thinks. It’s just what it does. It’s best to think of meditation as less about stopping thoughts, and more depersonalizing the Scary skull Halloween shirt and I love this stuff in your head, getting some distance so you’re not identified with it. I’ve been meditating for two decades now, and have known people who’ve been practicing longer, and none of us have ever had an experience of not thinking. There are people who just don’t have an internal monologue, but that’s something different. If you sit in silence and breathe you are meditating. Just sit and breathe. That’s all you have to do. Id you are thinking recognize that you are thinking, then just take another breath. By happy you are here. Simply observe yourself. Do something as simple as lie on a bed and observe. Observe yourself as you go about your day. If it’s forced meditation then it’s not meditation. Simply lie on a bed an observe yourself- any thought at all. To observe without evaluating is the highest form of intelligence – some said that and I agree. “Meditation is the most extraordinary thing if you know how to do it, and you cannot possibly learn from anybody; and that’s the beauty of it. It isn’t something you learn, a technique, and therefore there is no authority. Therefore if you will learn about yourself, watch yourself, watch the way you walk, the way you talk, how you eat, what you say, the gossip, the hate, the jealousy. If you are aware of it without any choice, all that is part of meditation, and as you go, as you journey, as that movement goes, all that movement is meditation. Then that movement is endless, timeless.”

meditation is about training the Scary skull Halloween shirt and I love this mind. Step one is to decide that if you sit for a meditation, no matter what happens, how long you sit for, or anything else, believe that you just had a successful meditation. Even if it’s for a second in which you sit down and stood back up. do this every day, to create a string of successful meditations. once you get your mind to accept it, the other things will follow. meditation is about developing a mental muscle, the ability to focus your attention. To do this you need to have intrusive thoughts. Start just by regular breathing, and focus on it. When thoughts come in, and they will, and you realize it, just go back to breathing. that is meditation in a nutshell. Breathe until you think things, then you realize it, and you go back to breathing, and repeat for however long. It’s not about magical mind states or anything else. It’s just about learning to focus your mind. And with the focus will come a certain amount of distance or detachment from the noise that the mind creates
