The origins of Hobo Day can be traced back to the 1930s, during the Great Depression. During this time, many unemployed men rode the rails as hobos, and some would often stop in San Diego. SDSU students took pity on these transient travelers, providing them with food and shelter. In honor of their kindness, the hobos would return the favor by helping to clean up the campus.
