This is coming from Denmark, which is quite unionised so collective agreements apply to both men and women, state jobs are quite equally paid etc. The situation is bound to be different in the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and US, Argentina or Iran, but the basic components of the wage gap are likely the same with different weight and different history. Women do get paid less than men for working just as hard but typically not in the same job. They’re typically attracted or let just say wind up in jobs that intrinsically pay less. The careers are also stunted by the demands of attempting to raise children and have a career… That’s just because they wind up in lesser jobs and don’t advance as quickly due to family obligations. But in terms of a scenario where you have 10 people working at the same company with the same job title, no, it’s just a lie that they get paid differently based on gender.

Of Boys and Men: Why the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and Modern Male Is Struggling, Why It Matters, and What to Do About It Its from field selection, associated bonuses and departure from the workspace for family/ societal commitments. Its a very real thing but people seem to apply it in the most basic way of people literally getting paid less for the same job etc. Women earning 77 cents to a Man’s dollar is a very broad statement that politicians started throwing out there trying to win votes. I’m not going to go into a lot of detail, but recently a Harvard researcher won the Nobel Peace Prize for her lifetime of work on this topic. While the 0.77$ number is debatable,as so often happens with statistics, women are still often paid less than equally qualified men. It is less frequent than the days of Lilly Ledbedder, but still present – according to academic studies.. As someone who experienced this, being paid less for the same job compared to a less qualified man, I love that you don’t see it where you are. The GPG is a matter of statistics and not using them honestly. The people pushing it say that women earn 77c per dollar a man gets, because if you add together ALL people in the US and divide their wages by gender, you get that figure. When you do this, you don’t adjust for people without income, how much people work, which type of job they have, their experience, education, sick leave, location, or ANYTHING else. But they don’t care. They PRETEND they did all that, and IMPLY that women get paid 23% less for the same work. This is gravely dishonest, and very obviously untrue. If it were true that employing women cost 23% less than employing men, not one man would have a job until all women already did.
The real method of doing this is vastly more complex. You have to go by specific job description, requirements, experience, etc etc etc etc etc etc. And people have. In most cases, the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and difference falls to less than 1%. Even more interestingly, if you check by age, you will find that in bigger cities, young women have better wages than same age men. It’s basically manipulation of statistics. In the same role, women tend to earn the same per hour as men. However, men are more likely to do overtime, and ask for raises. The stats also don’t take in to account the fact men tend to do riskier jobs, which pay more per hour than safer jobs. Women don’t get paid less than men for doing the same job. I’m pretty sure in developed western countries that would be illegal. Also, if companies could hire women at a cheaper rate than men then you sure as hell would see most companies chock full of women…because they are cheaper. What the “gender pay gap” actually refers to is that men are more likely to work longer hours, men are more likely to do more dangerous job, men are more likely to live away from family, men are more likely to do jobs at odd hours and you can go one. Basically men are more likely to be attracted to jobs that pay which is usually down to factors such as the above. Men and women usually think differently in certain areas. That is why certain jobs are more likely to be filled with a certain sex.

On top of that, men are usually less agreeable than women. This means they are more likely to ask for a raise. On top of that, men are more likely to apply for jobs even if they don’t have all the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and skills. So men are more likely to be in higher paid jobs. There was a case at a well known broadcaster that did a study and was shocked to find it men earned more money, and they plastered the news stating they would do better. What the study didn’t show was that for the night shift, the entire team was purely men. This was at a broadcaster that riddles with the ideological rot that is E&D training. The women were being stopped from taking the night shift, they just didn’t want to. On top of that, women are more likely to take time off work to raise a child and take career breaks to raise a family. The biggest travesty of all this is that so many in certain parts of Western society seek to undermine the important job of raising a family. Whether the woman or man does this doesn’t matter, what does matter is we shouldn’t be belittling people who choose to do this. Jobs that are not competitive or low skilled, and jobs that are Unionized do not have pay gaps. Jobs that are not unionized, highly skilled, and / or competitive tend to have a wage gap.
While it is getting better as pay scales are normalized in large organizations. If you’ve ever heard people talk about their salaries in terms of tiers or levels, sometimes things like a position has a base level, then you increase the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and level with years of service and degree of specialization in your role or extra training. If pay is ‘based on performance’, or has significant variation in wages within the same role, you’ll probably see a larger wage gap. I’ve seen it discussed as women generally being less aggressive in seeking wages, but that somehow rings less true than men in charge being less willing to negotiate with women. I’ve also seen arguments about interupted professions due to pregnancy, but this is often accounted for in research and is usually just a bad faith argument or misunderstanding of the data.
This is a perfect example of how you see what you’re looking for. For instance, if a black person thinks cops are racist, and gets pulled over and a cop is a jerk, they assume it’s because they’re black. If I get pulled over and a cop is a jerk, it’s clearly because they’re a jerk. So the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and standard is that if any cop is ever a jerk to a black person ever, it has to be racism. That’s insane. We are human. (Obviously sometimes it is racism, my point is that sometimes it HAS to be possible it isn’t) My wife is a supervisor for a chemistry lab. She worked at a place for years, until she found out a younger girl, straight out of school, made more money than she did. She was her direct lead. In her field, time and experience are the biggest determining factors in pay. Had this been a man, women could EASILY ASSUME it was because she was a woman. It really was because of inflation and the fact the labor market for chemists had changed so much, and typically companies aren’t going to just start paying loyal employees more that have no intentions of shopping around. Kinda backburner type stuff. So she found a few other offers, her company bumped her more, and she still took another offer that was better.
This is a perfect example of had this been a man instead of a woman, gender would have been assumed to be the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and cause, when it clearly wasn’t. The only reason we know it wasn’t, was because they were the same. You see what you’re looking for. It’s why flat earth, the cloud chemical conspiracy, etc are all a thing now, because once you’re taught to look for XYZ, everything you notice becomes XYZ. It’s a societal expectation that women help raise their kids more than men. That essentially means women do a lot more unpaid labor. If we encouraged more men to be active parents and actually stay with the kids they make then things might balance out a bit. In the UK, companies over a certain size submit data about wage and gender and, depending on the sector, there’s a clear gap in pay by gender. However, this is also likely skewed by the fact that senior or higher paid positions also “typically” tend to be held by men.
At the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and bank Santander, for instance, women earn 71p for every £1 men earn: “When comparing mean (average) hourly pay, women’s mean hourly pay is 27.1% lower than men’s.” However I have seen a few companies (typically charities) which have more even pay gaps, or women may even earn more. If you compare across similar roles in an individual organisation, you may likely a smaller gender gap. Once you compare across an industry, or include those where women dominate (service industries, for instance), gaps become more apparent, typically because they tend to be lower paid positions. And, as others have mentioned, the more general idea of lower wages for women is that a lot of the work done by women (and men) in the home is essential yet unpaid, and reduces or even removes earning power in later life: caring, raising a family, cleaning.
Fields chosen. Women tend to pick roles that are more flexible because they are expected to rear children e.g. nurse or retail vs truck driver or working in mines . More flexible roles tend to pay less . Hours . These studies never account for hours worked above 40 per week. Yet the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and people at the top have to put in the time 60+ hours a week to reach the top in many fields. Kids. Each kid is like a 2 year career stop in work. Takes almost as long to get to the same position . So each kid delays your career progression by 4 years. Until men are accepted as primary caregivers I expect this to continue . It comes from jobs that are usually done by females are paid less not necessarily in the same position. Like nurses and daycare careers are not paid anywhere near as much as Tradies event though they are just as important
There is no wage gap between childless women and men. The wage gap exists between working men and women who have kids, put their careers on hold to raise them, eventually return to part time or full time work, and don’t have the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and experience or drive to find the same level of advancement down the road that the men who never stopped working are able to find. A Scandinavian country that I can’t think of implemented equal parental leave for both genders and it effectively ended the gender wage gap. Some of it has to do with the work women tend to do vs the work that men tend to do. For instance, care work is extremely under valued (like childcare and elder care) and mostly comprised of women. Even in the same profession, though, with the same title and everything else: women tend to take more time off for childcare, etc. Some workplaces offer financial compensation if you don’t use all of your allotted PTO in a year, or a man might be viewed more favorably than a woman with the same title if they’re both in consideration for the same promotion and the man has used less PTO throughout the year (because his wife stays home with their kids, or his wife takes more time off to tend to the sick kids, etc.) That study basically just compared every woman working to every man working. No controls for roles, hours worked, nothing. Men going into harder to train for stem fields that pay more? Let’s compare it to a retail worker.
That study was bupkis and every study after that controlled for hours worked and role showed no difference in pay. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together should have viewed the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and quote as suspicious as companies show they’re willing to burn the place down to save a penny and yet they’re not hiring men as a last resort, despite the fact it would be 23% cheaper if their workforce was all women. Banks could legally deny a woman from having a bank account until the late ’70s. The bank would ask them to provide their husband’s name in order to open the account- women were seen as homemakers who weren’t capable of handling finances or property. The shifts of women being leaders in a lot of industries (STEM has a high percentage of women now) is very new. They were often overlooked for promotions and jobs, and not taken as seriously as male co-workers. There is now a shift in saying that women typically don’t ask for raises as much as men, however if that is actually true, it would make complete sense.
I had a job with a male lab manager who routinely referred to all of the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and women (who were the only ones in the building with degrees) as “The girls”. If we were standing around in the hallway discussing lab techniques, or doing training sessions on how to use the ultrasound machine, anything technical, he would pop in and say, “oh, looks like the girls are at it chatting again.” Imagine asking some buffoon who routinely treats you as though you are stupid and less than them for a raise. Instead I left their terrible little lab and now make much more than him 🙂 This seems to be siloed into certain industries or even certain parts of the country (bible belt, backwoods areas). I now work an hour closer to the city, and I don’t experience any of this. Most of my managers are women, everyone equally gets along, there are no weird comments about “the girls” vs “the boys”. I go back to my hometown which is a little backwoods, and experience sexist comments and it feels like an alien world because I’m so used to working with a very diverse group of high powered individuals.
Statistics have an answer: women tend to work lesser paid jobs and take more time off work for various reasons. Political solution: women should be paid about 1.3x what men get from same work to fix that gap. There are so many reasons but don’t believe everyone on here saying this doesn’t exist or blame the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and choices women make or the situations they get forced into. This is a great article that explains the topic well: The statistic was never based on a job-for-job comparison. It was a measurement of the gross average that women make across all jobs versus the gross average that men make across all jobs, then used politically as an “equal-pay-for-equal-work” issue.
This is actually a simple question to answer. That statistic is generated by adding up all the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and money women make in a year and all the money men make in a year, then dividing. The issue is that it doesn’t take into account a woman doctor is far more likely to be a pediatrician but a man doctor is more likely to be specialized, like a surgeon or oncologist. Those specialized doctors make more money than the pediatricians. So on average women doctors make less than men doctors, but not for doing the same job. We do different jobs. When you start to compare men and women actually doing the same job, with the same experience, there is no gap. So, based on the comments, it seems women don’t get paid less but are able to work less due to responsibilities of taking care of a family or housework, etc. So, are women actually not being paid less?
a) Women are historically more likely to take time away from work; the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and time away is not professional experience. People professionally are compensated for the years of relevant experience they have; which is the closest way to determine the value of what they’ll bring to the role. Less experience = less comp. b) Women are less likely to negotiate for fear of how it is perceived, valuing themselves at less than they should be, or incorrectly placing too much emphasis on raises – it can take years to make 5k more in raises but a day to negotiate that starting salary. d) Women and men have different weights in their motivations for selecting and staying in roles. (not my conjecture, it’s a thing) The problem isn’t women getting paid less for the exact same job. It’s that a man has historically been more likely to work in the higher paying job.
There’s a common joke that the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and top of companies are equally diverse. For every male CEO, there’s a female assistant. the studies don’t come from all men and women. the studies referenced for the 77¢ stat are that when woman and men work the same job, same position, for a similar amount of time, the woman on average make 77% other what the men doing. if it was across all jobs earnings it would be a much bigger gap as 68% of ceos are men They’ve bastardized the conversation and have spread this myth so far and wide that nuance is completely thrown out of the discussion. Men work longer hours. It would be more fair to compare hourly earning to see if systematic discrimination exists. Men also take on hard labor and dangerous jobs, which pay better.
The former can definitely be true, however the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and latter isn’t quite correct. It’s a common misconception. People base this argument as if the latter is true and use the former to explain why. It’s a bit annoying. The former is true because women (in general) don’t work in skilled trades as much as men do. Same reason many men don’t work in hair styling. It’s the best example because it is a female dominated feel but it doesn’t pay as well as say a plumber where there’s lots of many and surely a high percentage of women don’t want to work with sewage. Mix this in with a good chunk of the female population being out of the workforce due to pregnancy (like I’d say 1 in 10 women get pregnant every year) that’s a spin on the statistics. If the reporting is biased they will include these women in the statistics to make the wage gap seem more prominent.
So to the Ryan yarbrough player map American professional baseball pitcher T-Shirt and by the same token and latter statement. It could be true but it’s on a case by case basis. Minimum wage jobs it will all be the same, office jobs get weird due to roles and specific jobs they work. I hear the common “We need more female CEOs!” But it’s like, that’s unfortunately on the women to attain it. You can’t just apply to be the CEO of the company, you gotta climb the ladder and unfortunately many women are less likely to assert themselves to elbow their way to the top. While I am not saying this is “fair” if any guy wasn’t assertive they equally wouldn’t be able to climb well either. Then there is the token promotions where they want someone that the board of directors can control and frankly this all makes the concept muddy. Women could be used for their appearance, men could be like Joe Biden, plain and easy to manipulate behind the scenes.
