It also takes a whole room of caged bitches to do succesfully. It’s not 12-30 puppies where they are actually born malformed and that has already been established in discussion above so no need to keep iterating this please. But yes for the ones that are malformed and killed, it is an abhorrent and totally unnecessary practice that should not be allowed. It is harmful for the dogs that are used during the cloning process as the post outlines. For every dog that is successfully cloned, there are mother dogs basically used as breeding machines and other puppies that are euthanized for not being a perfect clone. Or even if they are a perfect clone, they can still be “disposed of”, because the owner doesn’t want a half dozen identical puppies. (The individual in the original post took two puppies, but usually all of the puppies from the birth are identical clones.) Yes, people clone their deceased pet. I have family members that cloned their deceased dog. It’s much more common than you think. Just because it is commonly done, even by family members, doesn’t mean it’s well-advised, right, or without consequences. Its an interesting social issue. There doesn’t seem to be anything morally objectionable about cloning, though the reasons given by the Vtuber are suspect (IMO). The problem with cloning is that youre just not going to get the same dog back, which is also IMO an interesting outcome. I could see why someone running a dog youtube business might be tempted to go this way, as its something I would genuinely be curious about. Does the new dog behave like the old dog, to what extent are they similar, to what extent are they different? Anyone who says they hadn’t thought about this when their cherished pet died is a damned liar, I know I have.
