Imma save you some headache. Find someone else to vent to. When I have something I want to vent about, but not get solutions, I save it for Friday guys night. However if she wants to talk about all these problems like they’re small talk or the weather, or she just wants to vent but not solve anything, she needs to message her sister or her friends because her describing problems but getting mad when I try to solve them raises my blood pressure. Things have worked out much better since then. Yes, I agree. Sometimes you need to find the right audience for venting. It’s hard to not go to fix mode with your partner but it’s easier for friends to go “yep, omg, laundry is the woooorst”

So you are upset because you wanted to complain about the laundry not being done and vent to your wife and then still not wanting the laundry to be done at all. I feel like this laundry thing is the worst example. If this really was a recent argument, it’s honestly ridiculous. I think op might need to give other more complex examples so people can actually understand what they mean. Laundry takes 5 minutes(besides the waiting) at a time to wash, dry. It’s kind of weird to expect the wife to hear “I’m so frustrated nothing is clean!” And just be like, “yeah that sucks…” when it’s such an easy and quick fix. I can only speak from personal experience but I have to say there is a difference between venting about something that is entirely your own issue (e.g. a challenge you’re having a work, a difficult relationship, a health problem) and “venting” about something that is a shared issue (e.g. the state of your house). For the former, it is completely reasonable to ask your partner to just be a listening ear and not fix. For the latter I think it’s a little unreasonable. My husband does this a lot by the way—he complains that it’s too hot in the house, or we have no space in the cupboards, or that our kid’s toys are all over the floor. Complaining about them, but not doing anything about them himself or letting me do something about them just makes me miserable. Because now I am also bothered—both by the mess and by his complaining about the mess.
