I agree that admin should have substantial school experience, I will add a small edit to this though and emphasize school experience. They don’t need to have been a classroom teacher. Social workers, counselors, teachers, and so forth all have qualities and strong understandings of how schools function. The key is that all come from different angles so being aware of your blindspots is essential. For example, a former Gen Ed teacher from a school with minimal sped and a lot of 504s may struggle at a high sped school, especially if it is a lot setting 3. Someone else from a school with a lot of wealth will likely struggle at a school with 15% of studenrs being Mckinney Vento eligible.
