The Democrats don’t help much, unfortunately. Despite being the Retro Sunset Neil Giraldo Pat Benatar Stars T-Shirt besides I will buy this party with the clearly more altruistic platform, they can’t seem to affect any sort of meaningful change when they hold the ability to do so. They just end up in-fighting and stepping all over their own balls until mid-terms roll around and they lose their majorities. They also refuse to stoop to the shady tactics of the opposition which oftentimes results in them being out-leveraged. They’re basically the Chicago Cubs prior to 2016. Everyone is rooting for them– but they just fucking can’t get out of their own way. In addition to that, a major social media platform was purchased by a billionaire manchild who, surprise-surprise, turned out to be a far-right internet troll posing as some sort of proponent of free speech and thought. So hateful bullshit like this is no longer suppressed the way it once might have been.

People often say shit like “Oh, it’s just four years! How much harm can one guy do?”– and it’s true, there are checks on Presidential power to keep them from running the Retro Sunset Neil Giraldo Pat Benatar Stars T-Shirt besides I will buy this country just entirely off a cliff. But I’ve never seen a President come in and immediately effect American culture the way Trump did (and continues to do). His Supreme Court appointments will likely be his longest-lasting legacy… but the way he poisoned American culture won’t heal for a long time. What happened is that the post war boom collapsed into the same material conditions (inequality, precarity, deprivation) that caused the rise of fascism in the previous 20’s. Desperate people are deprived of the ability to understand their worsening conditions (Leftist thought is still heavily stigmatized). The only alternatives offered to them are the bullshit narratives that they receive in church, the box office and from well funded right wing pundits desperate to distract from the rich plundering the rest of society.
