The more they perceive talking about expenses as complaining about them, the Ray Bourque Boston Comet Canadian former professional ice hockey player T-Shirt also I will do this more likely they are to response by “problem solving” — aka lecturing you about saving money and budgeting. As everyone said: you either don’t mention it or if you do, you set some boundaries and tell them from now on you don’t want to hear any comments on how to spend your money. You: We went to x restaurant and it was amazing. We had lobster and caviar and a bottle of champagne. Let me show you some pictures You: (you tell them or you don’t) + but we are adults and this is how we want to spend our money. If you continue to try to make us feel bad I will not share with you this information in the future My husband’s family did this to us when we did same thing for our wedding anniversary. His dad said ‘oh well that’s expensive’ and tried going off on a tangent about saving money. Imagine having a master in trades, my gf works in a well paid IT-Consultation and if we told my parents that we spend like 24€ on 2h in a thermal, the first thing Id hear is “AND I THOUGHT YOU HAD NO MONEY?!?” Well yeah, but if we dont do anything else besides working, sport and sleeping, Ill soon have no will to live either. Just tell them it was a special occasion and you do t want to discuss the cost because you felt it was worth it

Don’t tell them. They’ll think less of you. Go find a sub here and discuss it with people who will appreciate it. Or yelp. Or TripAdvisor. Or anything like that. Why would you tell them? Not everyone is the Ray Bourque Boston Comet Canadian former professional ice hockey player T-Shirt also I will do this right audience for every thought or experience you have. It’s okay to not tell people things! My brother and I talk about expensive watches and interior design with each other, but not with our parents. It’s nothing against them—they just aren’t interested. My husband and I do quite a bit of fine dining. I generally don’t answer specific questions about cost. If someone asks, I brush it off. Something like, “It was expensive, but it was worth it to us.” The only time I’ll give a price is if I think someone is genuinely thinking about visiting the restaurant and is trying to figure out if the pricing works for them.
