The tissue trauma caused by a rifle round is outsized compared to its diameter. The idea that a .223 hurts less than a 9 mm due to diameter doesn’t make sense. You can see both hitting ballistics gel and see how bad a rifle shot is. Not to mention 5.56 and 5.45 tend to yaw on impact created larger tumbling wounds shredding muscle. When I was in aghanistan many medics talked about it being easier to treat a standard 7.62×39 wound because the Rainbow chameleon shirt Also,I will get this round is heavier and stays its trajectory through the body. 5.56 often tilt or shatter creating much messier wounds. Another factor is whether the round goes through or not. If it doesnt, like most 9mm rounds, it transfers all that energy into the impact on the body. This is why you want to splurge on that defensive ammo in a nightstand gun and not use the Rainbow chameleon shirt Also,I will get this same stuff you shoot at the range I’m not trying to disparage that lifestyle, but as a European, the concept of defensive Ammo and nightstand guns is so incredibly foreign to me… There’s a thing called a temporary wound cavity. Generally the bigger and/or faster a round is, the bigger this cavity is going to be. It just forces everything around the projectile outward, potentially shredding and crushing everything in the way in the process, before returning to where it should be, all in less time than the blink of an eye. It’s also why if you get hit with a .50 you just explode, because the cavity ends up being bigger than you are, essentially Something tells me you’ve never been around anyone that’s been shot. .223 may be “small” but it carrys a fuck ton of energy and goes apeshit once it hits something. .223 wounds are fucking terrible I’ve seen an arm almost blown off by one.
