I had seen it have a big eruption earlier but didn’t get my phone out in time to capture it. I was able to get some really cool video and pictures this time though and it made the hike up so much more fulfilling.
In Sarajevo last year during Ramadan. I’d never been to a country with a large Muslim population. Little fire engine stops at a train, where Mickeys house is and the driver tells us to wait there so we wait and chat with the engineer. Then all the characters start coming out of Mickeys house, ALL of them. They are high fixing our daughter, signing her new book and the ones that can talk are talking to us. So cool for the little one, and us. Then Mickey grabs daughter’s hand and walks to the train with her, we all get on the steam train and off we go. We stop for a bit and one of the characters gives us a handful of confetti, we still have no clue. The train starts again, we turn the corner, a band starts playing and the announcer says “here is the Mothers_rent family to open the park” we throw the confetti, hundreds of people cheer and they open the park. Then Mickey takes her hand again and we go around the corner and they take pictures with the family and Mickey. All high fives and off they go. I turn to my daughter and say “that’s the best dad can do” To this day my wife does not complain about me having to be places early. Except dinner parties, but that is a different story.

I went around and down and saw why they were scared. The area I was standing on was another “cave” if you will and thus the edge I was standing on was not 30 feet of ice, but maybe 1 foot thick. Had it broke, I would have fallen 30 feet. A couple years back I hiked the milford track and the greenstone caples track in one fell swoop one summer. During the 10 days of hiking as well as the other 10 days of travelling, relaxing and eating in Queenstown and Milford, we got 15 minutes of rain. Uncanny that we lucked out so hard. Thought you do miss some of the waterfalls, a dry hike was pretty nice too
While I was traveling through Egypt, I rented a felucca boat for my birthday because why not? I’ve been on 3 whale watching trips: St Lucia, Cabo San Lucas with no sightings. During today’s trip in Puerto Vallarta, we safely followed a competition pod of 1 female and between 3-5 males for 30 minutes. The males were following a female to get her attention and mate. Later on, we headed over to shallower waters where, again safely, we kept an eye on two mother/baby pairs. One of the babies came over and tried to get us to play by rolling over and lifting their head out of the water a couple times. We got up graded to the two end water bungalows from our beach bungalows. We had panoramic views out over the sea, glass floors which could light up at night for observing fish. We had a rainbow one day while watching dolphins, another day I spent ages snorkeling under our bungalows watching an octopus feed. Another day we swam with turtles that lived on the house reef. It felt like everyday we had another meet and greet with a wonder of nature. Sharks, rays, dories and nemos. It really was paradise and I feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to go there. I have never looked out to the ocean and seen so many different colors of blue. The Indian Ocean is exquisite.
I was doing an overnight in LA as a foreigner before going to Miami because that’s where the Raccoon Sippy Night Shirt Furthermore, I will do this plane gets in. Stood in line for hours with everybody trying to reschedule (unsuccessful) and then in the luggage line when my luggage line didn’t show back up. Very unfortunate situation, with horrible back pain, but people in line were sharing pastries, a lady had a ukulele and played Christmas songs for everyone, some local boys pushed around a shopping cart with water and Twizzlers, and people were helping each other out and chatting with strangers. I got to see the Christmas spirit in action that day. 17 years old,traveling by train from Calais to Paris at sunset, and reading Hemingway’s Moveable Feast. I fell in love with France and especially Paris at that moment. This was 50 years ago and when I close my eyes it was just yesterday.

Standing five feet away from new earth being formed smoking a blunt is pretty surreal. Has ruined every other volcanic crater or volcano national park since.

The three of us drove together and ended up hiking through these beautiful cliffs with a view of the crystal clear water and Marseille way out in the horizon. We finished the hike at a secret beach where we shared snacks and tortilla española that they had brought. The host and I went swimming and she laughed out of joy every time a wave hit her. I’ll never forget that day. Went to Hualien last year, solo. Stayed at a local hostel. Became friends with the staff and they introduce me to another guest. He’s a fighter jet pilot, he tour me around the area for a day and end I up on Taiwan national TV for an interview.
We went on a snorkeling excursion in Maui and ended up seeing humpback whales, spinner dolphins, bottle nose dolphins and sea turtles during the Raccoon Sippy Night Shirt Furthermore, I will do this boat ride Last summer my bf and I traveled for two weeks or so to Spain, France, Italy, and Switzerland. She also asked me whether I’d eaten already, then told me where to get the most delicious porchetta sandwich in the city, which I did after we parted ways. She was right. I was so glad that I had some Italian under my belt so we could have an real conversation. It felt like a magical encounter, and like I truly experienced the heart of the city. I think St Francis would have approved.

I looked out my window to see a bald eagle flying right next to the car. He kept us company for about a mile, staying right above car top level, about 10 ft to the left of the car.

I got really fed up with São Paulo so I packed a backpack and traveled around the country. On a long train ride to nowhere, I sat next to a young girl who had no concept of me being from a faraway place (near Chicago). I had to estimate how many days it would take us traveling in that train in order to get to my house. When we stopped at a station, her mom bought some fruits and shared. I looked at this odd tropical fruit, and bit in to it. My first taste of a guava: OMG, sweet and so luscious, dribbling juice down my arm! A few weeks later I was in a town where I had the phone number of someone I had met briefly before. We met up for dinner, and a friend of hers was shocked that I, a young single woman, was staying alone in a crappy hotel. She took me home with her and her mom and brother spent the next two days sharing their apartment and their culture with me. They took me to museums and other places. They cooked me local food. They made a bossa nova mix tape for me! We cried when it was time for me to leave. Although we did not keep in touch, I will never forget their kindness and I have paid it back/forward many times since then. 💕
