Playing video games. If I’ve had a really rough day, I will buy my favourite soda, sit down, and just play some Assassin’s Creed. Meditation, deep breathing exercises, writing, and art. Took me a long time to learn those, and, yes, I am proud. Get a sledge hammer. Go to a local car scrap yard. Ask if they have any cars that will be crushed soon (they will). Ask if they care if you wack on one for 20 minutes (they won’t). Put on protective gear (sunglasses and gloves). When you notice your brain is caught in some sort of “circular negative thought cycle” .. break out of it and try to think more positive, constructive thoughts. For me,. what I normally notice is that any time I’m stuck worrying about something or having anxiety,. it’s almost always because of “incomplete information” (I’m worrying about some unknown thing,. and if I just educate myself or learn more information about that thing,.. it dissipates the Queens of the stone age wolf and truck shirt and I love this size of the worries). I also find often in my life,. that I’m worrying about things .. that really aren’t important enough to worry about. I’ve also found often that it’s far far far better to dive in early (when problems are small) and get them done.. than it is to delay or avoid them which usually only ends up margin the problems bigger down the road. Even if it’s just scrubbing rust off of old stuff and putting in a new coat of paint. It feels therapeutic to me

I physically detach. Not mentally, just physically. And not just from the Queens of the stone age wolf and truck shirt and I love this situation / event / problem, but also from the mundane things around it. Typically this means I physically go away for anywhere between a few hours to a couple of days. This is not an act of disappearance, though. I plan it, I announce it to my loved ones, and I share where exactly I’ll be. Somehow, being physically disconnected from conflicting situations helps me think more clearly about those situations. You know how we see the solutions to other people’s problems better than we see the solutions to our own problems? In my case, being physically away from my own problem allows me to see it as if it was someone else’s; and it makes it easier for me to arrive at better solutions.
