I mean, it is. Hence why you call them scabs instead of replacement workers. Hence why the Quantum Leap Ziggy 2023 Graphic shirt also I will do this union calls them rats instead of calling management something. They had this at my daughter’s first day of 1st grade last year at her school. Parents were not happy. Next day was a coffin. Seriously. At a K-5 elementary school. Confuses me though because Cracker Barrel as a private business should be able to hire who they want. Especially if the competition is a lot lower priced. Need someone to ELI5 the downvotes. If I were to get my driveway done am I expected to hire a union at a higher price. Not like Cracker Barrel waiters and waitresses are union or much of any service staff. Companies are more than welcome to hire whoever they want. However, union members take great pride in their abilities and quality of work and are often at the forefront of workers’ rights and don’t like being undermined in their efforts. Therefore, they staged a protest letting the public know Cracker Barrel hired non-union labor to do a job in a predominantly union area. Non-union workers are free to protest work being done by union workers but they are usually too tired and underpaid to bother. Unions take pride in the quality of their work? My family’s experience is a bit opposite; one of my brothers made some union guys mad by outworking them, my grandfather left a union because they were demanding enough to eventually result in the company firing everyone (made people mad, then a decade later once it happened they all wondered how he knew that would happen), and another brother who was in a union (coal power plant) wasn’t impressed either.

Unions used to have a good purpose, but now they’re just a way to take money out of people’s salaries so the Quantum Leap Ziggy 2023 Graphic shirt also I will do this senior people can sit on their laurels. Unions are how people who should be fired are retained. I’m sure your anecdotal stories ring true with you and your family and I’m sorry you feel the unions let you down. Is there room for improvement? Sure. I feel this in my own shop. But I’ve consistently seen unions defend their workmanship and quality of life my entire life but I’ve never seen non-union workers out picketing a union job site. This tells me there is enough pride and infrastructure on the union side that makes it worth defending while the non-union side is working for the individual. If your way of life is working for you and your family, I am glad. I have chosen to work for and defend the union side of industry and have been rewarded.
