It was definitely responsible for some, but not most. The Federal Reserve, for example, printed $4 trillion in stimulus for the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this financial system. The PPP injected nearly a trillion. Yeah everyone seems to forget the PPP “Loans”. People literally got free money for having a podcast.. and big business who didnt even need it made bank as well. You are correct about marginal propensity to consume, but the amount of money spent on the wealthy far outstrips what was spent on normal peolle. On the other hand the huge profits being made by a lot of companies now really points to inflation being driven by things other than the stimulus checks. The PPP. Too many businesses got them that didn’t need to. And others that needed them didn’t get them. An engineering firm I used to work at got them. 1 for each of the 4 partners. It’s 1 company. But they all got a PPP. A lot if them hit checks but didn’t use them fur what they were intended , to keep employees on the payroll . Instead they closed up , fired everyone and kept the $$$ The rich ended up getting a lot richer off the stimulus checks than I think the poor did. Put a bunch of money into crypto or tech stocks and watch the liquidity flow in. Yeah, you know where my stimulus check went? To 1/5th of my rent. The boomers at my job that were complaining about purple living off of stimulus money are just right wing regurgitating ghouls who enjoy being angry.
Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt: A Provocative Statement in Modern Fashion
You mean the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this “stimulus checks” by which were really just payday advances on your (possible) tax refund? A lot of people who would have gotten a $1k tax rebate at the end of the year actually got one of those “free” checks for $3k, and then wound up owing $2k back to the government at the end of the year. Agreed the rich, and corporations are overstimulated and need to settle down. As you know, corporations have no morals or ethics. It’s just a piece of registered paper, created by Rich dudes to take advantage of tax laws created by other Rich dudes. The people be damned; if they don’t like it, we move our s*** overseas. Yup, a pile of papers in a filing cabinet in the Bahamas has no pulse, no soul, will never feel fear or desperation or give up hope, it is an abstraction. Yet that pile of paper – or worse, the concept behind it – has personal “rights” in court that often conflict with real humans. That needs to end. Yeah everyone ignores the massive sums of $$ that needlessly went to bailing out corporations that couldn’t be bothered to have backup plans in case of adverse circumstances. Not to mention all the fraudulent PPP loans taken out by republican business owners who did not give it to employees like they were meant to/lied about how many employees they had. People are brainwashed to pin it on the people and not the corporations.
The Stimulus check did help though even though it was small. It’s still better then the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this trickle down Economics gift that they did during 2008 when Millennials had their first major economic break down and they gave millions if not billions to banks, and companies already rich. “Millennials” did not “give trillions” to banks. Congress did. The Fed did. The banks should have had their CEOs and boards fired, all their bonuses clawed back, been broken up and sold. The only question is, was the c-suite criminally liable, or just incompetent? You can’t take $60 million a year in compensation and then claim you “didn’t know” that 70% of your banks revenue came from criminally risky “financial instruments.”

They too rich to care about the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this price of meat, they got those massive hidden refrigerators or multiple refrigerators and freezers full of stuff that just sits for a while. *They loan it back to us to afford homes, cars, etc. The government bails them out if they fail and gives them trillions to fund their war against anyone not in the 1%. Simply in elementary economics we learned what keeps prices down. One of the big ones used to be that if a company’s prices got too high, someone would come in and undercut them. Companies today are so big that no new company is coming in to undercut them. Companies work really hard to make sure new companies can’t get a foothold. 11 companies control like 80% of what is out there. They aren’t competing with themselves or each other. When the rare company actually succeeds in getting market share, (Discover, Sprint) they just get bought up and the “threat” is over.
So really the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this only thing keeping prices down slightly is that people just aren’t willing to pay. But you can’t not buy food, a refrigerator, etc. Car prices spiked when there were no chips available. Chips are available, car prices haven’t come down. Sooner or later people are going to have to buy new cars. Oligopolies. You don’t have to only have one. If there are three and they are so big there is no reason to be competitive, or if you see company a raise prices, you can too, that is all you need. If cheating results in higher grades on a test, then why did my grade go up even though I didn’t cheat? All I did was study extra hard. The other factor is the dollar’s value dropped (again) with the deficit spending and printing money to cover it.
If raising the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this minimum wage causes inflation, how would we know? It hasn’t happened federally for a very long time. Seriously, I believe it would be a minor factor at worst in causing inflation. Relatively few workers make that little, and other macroeconomic factors like the money supply would dwarf it. “Greedflation”… initial price increases were caused by supply chain disruptions, companies took advantage of that to increase prices well beyond their actual costs. The global economy is producing less goods, so if the amount of money keeps the same, products get more expensive. But also, the de facto minimum wage has gone up. Nobody around where I live is paying the federal minimum, it’s closer to double that. I’m familiar with the Pennsylvania stats only, and the PA department of labor actually makes a distinction there. According to the BLSbout 63,600 Pennsylvania workers made the minimum wage in 2022. Of those 63,600, 46,200 were tip workers. Meaning that only 17,400 workers were making the minimum wage. There’s 6.3 million workers in PA, so if you’re including tip workers it’ll be 1%. If you’re not including tip workers, it’ll be about 0.28%. I’m actually way off… BLS says 1.9% of all hourly workers, and hours workers make up around 60% of all workers, so the real number of minimum wage workers is probably around 1.2% of all American workers. If they’re an employee, I suspect it does. Also, from my experience in jobs that were tipped labor and discussions with others, I believe most tipped workers claim the lowest amount of income without forcing their employer to cover the remainder of the untipped minimum wage rate. If this is the case, this percentage is a good bit higher than reality.
It would be great if this also included stats on people within the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this neighborhood. Being paid 7.25 is basically the same as being paid 7.26. Pretty sure someone has done something like measuring how many people are below a living wage, but that also depends on you agreeing with their definition of a living wage I used to get paid 7.50 because if you’re paid minimum wage they are legally required to pay for your uniform but since it was technically more they could charge 50 bucks for khaki pants and a branded shirt you had to wear. I totally agree more should be clumped together The above is a compilation of all 172 million W-2s filed in the US. It doesn’t break it down by hourly wage or number of hours worked, though, just total yearly compensation. But you can still extrapolate some conclusions from it. The stat is very misleading because of tipped workers. If you make $2/hr in wages but $20/hr in tips, you are part of the 1.2% that make “at or below minimum wage.” Even though nobody would consider $22/hr income to mean “at or below minimum wage.”
If you look at the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this breakdown in the above link: 141k workers “at min wage,” and 882k workers “below min wage.” So already, it’s pretty obvious the vast majority of workers that make up the 1.2% stat obviously have some sort of exception to the law, like tipped workers, disabled workers, etc. Then I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the “at min wage” jobs are also actually tipped/commission jobs as well. Eg. an ice cream clerk often makes pretty low wages before tips, but then often get about $5-10/hr in tips as well. Edit: since I keep getting downvoted later on from people that don’t believe me, I am adding a quote from op’s link where the BLS explains what I am saying: The estimates of workers paid at or below the federal minimum wage are based solely on the hourly wage they report, which does not include overtime pay, tips, or commission This suggests to me that a lot of tipped workers are illegally under-reporting. I don’t particularly care, personally, since there’s not a lot of missed government revenue by allowing that to continue. However, it can contribute to bad or incomplete policy discussions.
Where is that? Even in rural TN, KY, GA, OH, IA, MO and MN I’ve seen mostly the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this same. Gas stations, fast food, factories, farms, etc. all 12-15 base. For decades I’ve been silently confused about how dallas is “north texas”, but if you drive east for forty five minutes you’re now in “east texas”. I like “piney woods” better anyway. I mean… it’s north of some things… I guess. In my brain “north” is really the panhandle, but since lubbock and amarillo are already covered by the panhandle someone just had to use “north” for something else. If you live here, I guess it’s pretty easy to understand, but it’s a shit way to describe things to someone who’s unfamiliar with it all. Whether you call it north, east, piney woods, whatever… they don’t pay shit around here either. If you want to make 7.50 to 9.50 you’ve got endless options, and if you want to make 11.00 in a high stress managerial position that’s generally easy if you have (or just lie about) some level of experience and/or are over twenty five. A few years back, I took on a third job doing halloween shit at party city when my main job cut everyone’s hours due to it being the slow season. I made 8.25. They had me put on a fucking hot dog costume and hold a sign on the side of the road. I made a joke about how this was the most stereotypical minimum wage scenario I could imagine, and the general manager actually argued with me about how it “wasn’t minimum wage”. Y’know… because that 8.25 was so much above the 7.25 minimum.
Rent in dallas (like everywhere else) is fucking insane. You can work 60 hours and not come anywhere near being able to pay rent, utilities, and food. If you owe 2100 for rent and pay the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this landlord 1200 because that’s all you have, they aren’t going to give a shit. You’re still getting an eviction notice. At that point it’s not much better than just working for free. You’re giving away all your income and receiving nothing in return. I hope this is the last rant I go on today. If I manage to top it later I probably won’t have any friends left. We are a two tiered society. If you live in the city jobs are everywhere, there is not enough people to fill them. If you live in a rural area, there are no jobs to be found.. mechanization has gutted farm employment, and what you have left is people working at the corner gas store or convenience Mart for the minimum. People in rural areas are fighting hard for what is left, and being taken advantage of economically. My second job was minimum wage. I started at $8.00 though. They didn’t raise wages till COVID hit. Then all indoor employees were paid $10. And that wasn’t a rural Georgia town either.
The town I come from in rural Alabama still has job listings for 7.25 an hour. Now I will give them a bit of credit and say the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this average hourly wage in that town is $9/hr in 2024, and a 3 bedroom house will probably cost only about $100k. Although groceries are actually more expensive there than the city I live in now and I’m not sure why. SE US and I say that because throughout the region all I see is “$12/hr or $15/hr”. This happened because the labor shortages railed a lot of traditionally minimum wage businesses. While they continue to lay off. Many tech companies reported record profits last year, and the current trend in the industry is sweeping layoffs in just about every sector. Why? It’s about more wealth consolidation. They often hire much more than the layoffs, layoffs are more likely to make the news but the issue (imo) is hiring too many people when things are doing well and then just dumping a bunch when there’s any downturn or inflation. A bit more complicated than that I’m sure but layoffs still leave a sour taste
We live in a world where supply can be controlled (look at OPEC) and demand is artificial (astrotutfing, bots, ads, etc.). Supply and demand are effectively just here to act as a scapegoat for one sided price increases. Otherwise we’d see prices go down when things got better, but they only seem to ratchet upwards The only thing that matters to them is making more profit, the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this prices of services will always increase and wages will not increase as often as services do. That’s the way it is Modern CEOs really don’t give a s*** about the product. The only thing that really counts is shareholder value, got to keep the stockholders happy. The quickest and easy way to “turn around a company” and increase profit is to eliminate jobs. I’ve watched more than one successful company fail because they brought in a hot shot CEO to boost short term value, only to bring the company crashing down.
The desire for profit would tend the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this price toward equilibrium. The problem is CEOs are rewarded for short-term gains even if it kills the company in the long-run once the consumers adjust to the change in price. This is actually not true if you look at the last 70 years or so of median wages vs inflation. The last couple years are an outlier. Those trillions are the only option central banks had in response to government shutting down the economy for Covid lockdowns. Actually, if you trade stocks and look at the Fed Balance sheet and SP500 over the last five years, they took advantage of Covid and printed (QE) way too long and way to much. They drove the stock market to record highs DURING THE PANDEMIC! Probably overshot by 5 Trillion dollars. BTW, most of the money printed during COVID went into the stock market. So shady. But the stock market is shady.
What’s really crazy is this is a known fact. The president knows it, his advisors know it, the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this Fed knows it, Congress knows it, the WEF knows it, the IMF knows it, but we still go on printing money and then trying to convince people it’s something else causing inflation. Politicians like to act like they’re for the poor and middle class, yet they do nothing about the most regressive tax there is, inflation from money printing. Rich people with investments aren’t affected. Most of their money is in investments that aren’t touched by inflation because their intrinsic value is the same, so the dollar value just goes up as inflation does. It’s the main reason there is such a growing gap between the rich and everyone else. Everyone likes to act like it’s corporate greed, as if people are just now greedy, and haven’t always been that way. Oh, and it’s always the other guy that’s greedy, they themselves would NEVER be greedy.
We had a decade of infinite QE and inflation barely moved, so it is not surprising that people don’t understand. Economists WANT a little bit of inflation… The economic turnaround of those dollar circulating in the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this economy keep people spending. The real economic problem is when prices start going down due to lack of demand due to no money circulating to buy the goods. More people understand those simple words than you’d imagine, it just doesn’t matter. Those trillions are boosting asset prices (stocks, bonds, and real estate). For this to be curbed, we’d need to tell the wealthiest people to stop adulterating Capitalism and I’m certain there’ll be a war before they listen. Wages are increasing. Just because the statutory “minimum” wage isn’t increasing doesn’t mean market wages aren’t increasing. Also there are many other factors that contribute to inflation
There was a brief prior to covid where real wage growth was outpacing inflation by a decent amount for the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this first time in two decades. But generally over the last 20ish years, wages have been stagnant or losing ground to inflation. The fallout from the subprime crisis caused a brief setback, but generally speaking real wages adjusted for inflation have been on an upward trajectory for 40 years. Extended into covid time as well… People were throwing money at workers in mandatory services to show up for work, and not stay home and collect a check. I was going to say, minimum wage is the absolute bare minimum you can pay someone in the US. In my area, those jobs that were $8/9 an hour went up to $15/16, which is nearly double. Thats a HUGE increase for them, even if it’s still below poverty levels. Then add in all the stimulus the last few years (flat $600 from feds on top of regular unemployment, pause on mortgage and student loans, increase child care credit, all the stimulus checks), the PPP loans, and the rates bottoming out and it’s no wonder inflation sky rocketed. People had a huge influx of money while simultaneously having several bills either on hold or greatly lowered.
Had this argument with a guy a few weeks back. He said it was literally impossible for wage increases to cause inflation. Fucking wild out here Yeah idk how anyone can say wages haven’t increased. Legal minimum wage in my part of NC is $7.25, but the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this de facto minimum wage is now $14. The minimum wage job I worked in high school now starts at $15. Over the last few years wages of the lowest earners have increased at the fastest rate, meanwhile many higher paying jobs have maintained a standard 3% annual adjustment. Not saying it’s the only cause of inflation, but saying it has zero effect is naive. I’ll never understand why people cite the federal minimum wage as proof that wages aren’t increasing. A very small percentage of Americans make the federal minimum wage. It’s really an irrelevant point to make. Businesses use this argument to say that minimum wage doesn’t need to be moved up. They don’t want it moved. If it were to be recalculated as it was intended, using inflation, corporate gains in efficiency (1980s, 90s, was all about computerization for efficiency) and corporate profits, minimum wage would reset to $22-$26/hour. This would put minimum wage to where it was economically in the 50s and 60s.
Businesses use this argument to avoid raises. Since they now pay more than minimum, why should they give raises. I give reviews to the Purrfect Mood For Antisocial Days I Hate People Said This Cat Shirt but in fact I love this employees I manage. The company employees 50k+ workers and is a multi-billion dollar company. Its raise structure is if your performance is rated poor, 0% raise. If it is good, a 2% raise. If your rating is excellent, 2.5% raise. Not even a cost of living raise. The minimum needs to be legislated higher. This minimum hike will give a boost to a lot of workers that traditionally beat minimum wage. Why would somebody do roofing in August in Texas for the same money as a drive-through fast-food dispenser? Companies will claim anything to justify price hikes and wages being stale. We have all seen the American whopper served for the same price as a Belgian Whopper (after money conversion) by an American making less with no benefits. The only people who should be are the payout and bonuses of the higher levels of management and stockholders. When Roosevelt signed minimum wage into law, he said any company that couldn’t afford to pay Americans a fair and living wage didn’t deserve to do business in the US.
