11 years ago, I started as a 12-month contractor at 80k. 2 months in, they offered me permanent hire for 70k with benefits. I countered for some extra PTO and 80k. How about instead of a raise we forget about these absences and you ask again in 4 months, then we’ll see about knocking your pay up to $17/hr.”

I was livid, went home, spoke to my spouse about it, and he straight up told me to quit.
