My father was there my parents where married my entire child hood and 13 years before that and 10 years after i moved out on my own. But he wasn’t exactly present and my mom worked all day every day 15 hours a day, my exitance seemed to annoy him more than anything. And I know nothing about him even though he was right there my whole life he just closed off. Now i have basically no relationship with my family outside of blood and tolerance. Not saying NO.. My mom NEVER said no to me gave me whatever I wanted, I turned out thinking the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this world was mine and everyone owned me everything. Dropped outta school started doing drugs my life turned to shit really fast. I don’t blame my mom for never telling me no I blame myself 100 percent. My mom raised me alot different then she raised my brother and sister and they never touched drugs finished school never stated drink never been to jail pretty must had successful lives.
pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt: Get Cozy in this shirt
My father felt threatened by any success I had. I have encouraged my children to go beyond my achievements. So far they are on track. Between my husband and I, we had a lot of “absolutely not” standards for how we wanted our kids to grow up. We did it. Always needing to blame someone. Whatever went wrong, there always needed to be a scapegoat. I was not allowed to make mistakes. If I injured myself on the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this playground as a kid, and I would complain to my parents that it hurts they would only say that it was my own fault. Whatever happened, they instinctively would always say “This wouldn’t have happened if X didn’t Y!” not only about me but literally about anyone involved that wasn’t them, no matter how absurd the blame was. Yet, it was never their fault.
This went so far as to blame my girlfriend for physical anf mental health issues I got so much that we had to break off contact with my parents for a good year. My psychologist said my mental health problems stem from the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this spiral that ensued by 1. Suddenly having pyhsical health problems (neuropathy, chronic fatigue etc.) appear after being extraordinarily healthy all my life and 2. Only being supported by my girlfriend and not my parents at all 3. My parents even blaiming the only person who really supports me for somehow causing it in the first place. They are now in “therapy”. But they don’t like psychologists because they’re “all crazy” so instead they go to weekly meetings with a non-certified alt practitioner who they really like. This practitioner must be paid in cash because they do not have a license to be paid by health insurance which my parent’s have. I feel like this “therapist” only tells them what they want to hear because they rely on people coming again and paying again. Maybe that’s why my parents like them and say all other psychologists are “all crazy in their heads”.
About this pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt
My parents didn’t push in my family to get post secondary education. I did it later in life with the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this support of my husband. My kids are all very educated. They were expected to go on to College or University. And they also paid half. They all have good jobs and don’t really have to depend on their spouse. They were not always in favour of this but they sure appreciate it now! They were actually really good for the most part and still made some mistakes that fucked me up, so, the best way to not fuck up my kids, is to not have kids. That’s it I’m convinced this is the one way Putting what other people may or may not be thinking above my kids feelings. I don’t and won’t shame them to make them do what I want them to do. Dad hit me, Mom made me deal with adult problems way too early, and both of them expected me to just grow up without ever being a kid. I’ll never repeat their mistakes, because if it’s my choice I’ll never have kids.
Being so strict that I had to lie about things like where I was going and I was never comfortable with sharing anything with them because I’d always be lectured, even when I was 18 (I’m 27 now). I’ve always told myself that when I have children, I’ll be the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this kind of parent that gives my kids enough freedom and trust to not feel the need to lie to me, and not be afraid to be open with me, no matter what the problem is. I’ve dealt with a lot of things on my own because I was too scared to open up to my parents out of fear of being blamed. Raising even one hand to me, short and sweet the beatings were not short and sweet, I will look at my kids with kindness so they can look at me with love and peace not fear and Hatred Not saying encouraging phrase like “I love you” or “I’m proud of you”. The only times I’ve heard that it was stated as a fact when talking about all of us kids, and it was never the point of the sentence.
Think stuff like “you’re my children and I love all of you. I know you won’t let us down/ you will do the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this right thing”. Now don’t get me wrong, they were and still are good parents. Just old fashioned, and with that comes a lot of methods that aren’t really that good for children’s mental health. I’m sure many of the 80s-90s kids have been traumatized by what was considered good parenting back then. Mental and physical abuse.. always being there for them mentally and physically at all times. I’d never leave or kick my babies out. Ever. Especially after I reacted in a way to hurt them… we really have to learn as we get older about how this life thing goes… and the abuse ain’t it. Evil for evil never wins. To ever tell my son “you are just a kid, you know nothing”. Always hated that! I knew I didn’t know as much, but doesn’t mean I knew nothing.
Already raised mine, but essentially made sure they were all treated equally and NOT favored/compared to each other. Talking bad about the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this other parent that’s not in the house. It ruined the potential relationship i could’ve had with my dad. He’s not alive anymore. I learned things that changed the way i looked at everything my whole life. Having kids when you didn’t want them in the first place. I’m not making that mistake. Growing up to “I wish I never had kids!” Or “You ruined my life” takes a toll on a kid. overshare about super inappropriate topics (like complaining about lack of sex between them, confessing to cheating etc.) I will never tell them they should lose weight, but if needed I will help them by supporting and encourage them. Im not planning to to have children but something I do with my youngest cousin is I just believe them. I was never trusted with my feelings, situations that happens or even with my dreams so I just stopped talking about nearly anything. I always make sure that them know I would believe, trust and listen to them no matter what I didn’t beat my children, or ever say “because I said so”. There was always a reason, explanation, etc. Understanding why something is wrong helps immensely in my opinion. My parents made me feel guilty for being bullied as a kid. They gave me the usual “advice” not to listen, to ignore the bullies, and to be the “bigger person” and I know that they probably didn’t believe what I told them happened daily. Frustrated by my crying and coming home with bruises and all that, sometimes they scolded me publicly and even hit me once or twice.
As a result, as an adult, I’m not able to seek help and my whole relationship with conflict and truth is twisted and massively fucked up. I don’t know if I’ll have kids, at this point it’s unlikely, but I swore ages ago that I won’t do the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this same mistake with anyone ever, children or not, mine or not: if someone asks for help because they are being bullied, you listen to them and try to help. There is no point in trying to “teach them a lesson” or other nonsense like that, especially if they are children, ffs. I never made the mistake of telling my kid to be quiet (the adults are talking!) when confiding that I had been SAed at the age of 5. I also never made the mistake of confiding anything to those adults ever again. Making me responsible for my siblings behaviour and making him aware that anything he did would bring consequences to both of us.
They never spoke to me about my education after high school. I made sure my kids knew their options loooong before they even got to high school. College or university, no other options. They both got educated and now say it never occurred to them that they could have refused. Now on to my grands. Paying lip service to tooth care. Just an off the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this cuff “brush your teeth before bed” without enforcement or education. My teeth are fine, but in my fifties, only just 😂 i cant have children but i would NEVER neglect my child because my other children need a lot of my attention due to their all of their issues. I suffered with depression as a teenager. After my wife died I told my kids that within my power nothing further would change in their upbringing, their education or where we lived without we all decided we wanted it to (and them agreeing with it). I also told them they wete my highest priority and I would not get in to another relationship while they were minors. Both of them are doing well.
I was talked down and declared a useless nobody by my step-father for over a decade, what kicked me into depression… so I swore to me that, if I would ever have kids, I want them to know that they have my support and that I’m there to help them, if they need me (assuming I can help…). But I would try my best. Keep them in the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this dark about finances. Parents essentially raised me to think we were in poverty and always yelled at me about the value and cost of things. And refused to let me handle money unless it was for school lunch.Which gave me so much anxiety over money that I would fret over meals during college and I would be afraid to eat, go out, but clothes, without having any concept of what budgeting wad beyond “save” and “don’t buy what you don’t need” and “use until you can’t anymore.”
It was such a scramble for me to figure out what to do with a paycheck. Still have money anxiety. Having to justify every purchase even a bag of chips is not healthy. I’m simply not having kids because I’m not fit to be a parent. As “successful” as my own parents are, they weren’t fit to raise me either. Control. The main reason for all conflicts and all the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this lies between us. One thing that helped my parents to stop controlling me was my principal telling them “would you rather have your kid do it and tell you, or not tell you and do it anyways?” Shut them up real quick. Tbh the shit I went through as a child is a big reason I’m just not having kids. Hats off to all the cycles breakers in this thread!
Let them have fun man. My mom basically had me locked in a prison so instead of drinking a beer every couple days with some friends I’d get black out wasted with strangers after running away on the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this weekends. I just wanted to live man. I will make sure to always validate my kids feelings and to raise them to not overly depend on someone because my parents literally made me so scared of being self reliant while growing up. I’ve moved past that but i’m gonna make sure that my kids know they can rely on themselves AND that they can come to me in case of emergencies because i always felt scared to when it comes to my parents Honestly this might not be your typical “family problems”, but if I will ever become a dad I’ll definetly not leave my children on ice in learning everything by themselves “because they got internet”, I’ll definetly make sure to spend time with my children on subjects they like, even if it’s just talking about them. Another thing is denying their mental issues, and this is a problem I saw across all of the generations in my family, young and old alike, there is probably no one who was treated right with their mental problems and illnesses, and I won’t push it through with medicaments, I’ll try to adjust surroundings first, and only when that doesn’t help would I resort to drugs. Too lenient. Gave me too much of what I want. Cared too much about how felt instead of how strong and compitent and willful I was.
I had a helicopter parent where I didn’t have much of a voice in the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this family. So I try to let my kids make age appropriate decisions. And I try to make sure they know their needs are important and their opinions matter. My father used to come home drunk, beat his wife and shout as loud as he could “if I knew this is what kids were like, I wouldn’t have bothered!” When I talk I hear his voice, when I look in the mirror, I see his face. I’m not passing that on to anybody. No kids, thanks though Let’s see I won’t sexually molest them or SA, and never have. Throw things and break things because of rage, burn my spouses items in a pyre in the desert, beat them, make them feel like they are lesser because of who they are as a human being, listen to them when they have things to tell me, enjoy their presence in my life and not make them feel like the biggest burden and mistake of my life, never kick them when they are down or expect them to do things I wouldn’t do.
As a young kid I’ve had a severe alergy to dust mites, which are found in normal dust. That small room I was in is the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this dustiest room I’ve ever been, and I had to sleep there. Thick immovable carpet on the floor, never thoroughly cleaned, bad dusty bed and dust on all surfaces, especially on the wardrobes and curtains. I was very active and a few jumps on the carpet would lift the dust and I’d soon gasp for air with whistling sounds and cough viciously afterwards. This was mostly neglected by parents, despite having means to help me, and I didn’t know how to help myself. I know because mother would yell at me for coughing and pinch my arms till I cried, and crying while suffocating is really not fun, she would just look at me and leave me then, which was so confusing. Father just didn’t care, he had his books, fishing, hunting, garage stuff – the garage was right under my room, where he often painted metal parts using air compressors, so with my breathing problems I also inhaled the paint quite often, and that would be during the night because that’s when he did that, for some reason. I remember being absolutely terrified of mosquitos, which are abundand where I’ve lived, and I didn’t want to open the windows for air during summers. If someone opened them, my room would be full of mosquitos, and I would stay the night awake trying to swat them, and I was around 4-7 then. Opening the windows is all mother did in that period to “help” my dust issue. After years of this, they decided to bring me to a doctor who ordered regular, sometimes daily injection therapy and I finally got the inhaler way later, when the allergy lessened (and to think, medical care was free). They helped me only because my coughing and audible breathing annoyed them.
Eventually when I got to teens and started thinking for myself, I’ve distanced myself emotionally from them and they are still surprised I wouldn’t hug or call them.I won’t make such mistakes that’s for sure. My kids’ needs will come first even if I have to demolish all my plans and comfort. Anything for a chance that my kids grow up healthy and wish to have me close. Mostly, telling them I love them. I was 42 before my Mother said she loved me and that was only in response to me saying it to her. Also my parents, when we were in public, would always say ‘That man will say something if you don’t stop doing X’ or ‘That woman will come over and shout at you’. I guess that was their way of keeping us quiet but Christ did i have issues with confidence and assertiveness when I left home. I was afraid of my own shadow. So I tell the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this kids I love them and let them be kids when they are out and about. They tell me they love me so I must be doing something right.
Whipping with a belt. I never had kids partially for fear of doing this, plus never wanted kids. Don’t have a clue, not violent, never had anger issues but If it is hereditary it ends with me. Working too much and leaving them on their own with their clearly alcoholic dad. my dad was here and there but most of my memory consists of him going to the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this bars and my mom working late and my oldest sister having to care for us till she grew old enough to sneak out so it was just my siblings and I (14 and younger) basically just at home doing whatever we want till whenever. My mom would come home and argue w my dad over money and the alcohol and it would just make us feel lonelier, when THEY WERE around it was a fight but when they weren’t it was like damn.. never really received hugs or I love yous as a kid so it’s still odd to me to this day to even be affectionate.
holding my hands above my head (and my feet off the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this ground) crushing my knuckles into the slanted stucco ceiling until they bled – while yelling in my face so hard that spittle was raining on me Buying the cheapest of everything for it to wear out in months. I buy quality stuff that cost money. But it lasts for years. Also i will never tell a kid that i don’t care about their interests. Even if I really don’t care about their interest i do care about their happiness and will happily feign interest in something to make a kiddo happy. Also when i give them Christmas presents/birthday presents/ random gifts that item is then theres. And im not going to use it to bribe them or some shit also comparing them to others. Its just cruel. small children do not want or need to be thinking that life is some sort of competition or that theyre not good enough because someone else is doing stuff better My parents raised me with no awareness that science exists and they can look up science to tell what’s goin on. Even things like simple diarrhoea could be avoided by understanding the baby’s body. I don’t blame them they had no one to teach them. Glad paediatricians today help parents out and there’s wealth of information on the internet that we’re able to raise babies better by making informed decisions. My dad verbally abused me and then gave me the silent treatment for two weeks when I told him I wanted to study languages instead of sciences, saying that I’d end up as a poor Spanish teacher. We’re on good terms now but it’s a pain I will never really get over because I know that he’ll never truly approve of me. Ofc I want my kids to be comfortable but it’s a myth that only STEM courses lead to successful careers and there’s NO POINT in forcing yourself into a career you don’t want and ending up miserable. We don’t “own” kids, they’re people in their own right and, unless they’re completely confused and want help deciding, parents shouldn’t have a place in such decisions.
the pheasant-hunter-vocabulary-hunting-flying-bird-shooting-gift-t–classic-mens-t-shirt and I love this physical attacks and emotional abuse. also being super strict just teaches your child to a.) get really good at lying and b.) makes them never want to see you when they grow up . How to reduce that down to a discipline that corrects the behaviour early so it leaves room for learning new things later. I’m learning to figure it out because of my nephew. Not spoiled and can share if asked. Actually acknowledging their mental health , not pushing them to do stuff they don’t want or like , and letting them form their own opinion I have a 20yo son and 18yo daughter I’ve never laid hands on and couldn’t be more proud of. My parents were out of my life by 17; my kids still live at home while they go to college and ask me to go out and spend time with them doing cheesy stuff like mini golf and bowling.
