I was there just last week, in Karlovy Vary and Marienbad (Marianske Lazne) – it’s more of a “stay in a hotel which includes a sauna/wellness” type of place rather than somewhere with lots of baths to choose from, although they do exist. I’ve been there twice and last time was before 4 months and I have to say that the Peanuts characters Kansas City Chiefs football logo shirt and I love this springs are highly overrated but the place is amazingly beautiful. Can’t beat Budapest’s, but I did like the one rooftop pool I went to last year, on the really tall new building. I live in Prague and have been there a few times. It’s locally known as little Russia lol when you’re there you can go to the pupp (pronounced poop) hotel. Iceland IMO stands out because you can go to fancy spas like Blue Lagoon (which can be on the pricier side) but you can also find random hot springs in the middle of nothing where you can just hop in for free. Though Iceland isn’t exactly the cheapest place to go to and stay at. Germany and German-inspired/influenced areas (Austria, German-speaking Switzerland, South-Tyrol) are unique for their naturist approach (ie. naked mixed company). There’s everything from massive complexes like Therme Erding down to small cute spas. But even hotels often have their own tasteful spa area tucked in somewhere. Went to a little hotel in Ettal last summer that had an amazing little naturist spa overlooking an abbey and the mountains. Couldn’t believe it was both included in the price of our stay, and the cheapest hotel we stayed in during the whole trip! In the vast majority of hotels that I’ve stayed in Germany, Austria or Switzerland, if they had a spa, it was included in the price.

I doubt it’s unusual. It was our first time in Germany so it surprised us. Will definitely be returning! We absolutely loved Bavaria. Inside are private rooms with tile mosaics. The more expensive room ($190 an hour, roughly) has a huge hot water pool and beautiful mosaic artwork of pheasants: Was supposed to go to the Thermae Bath Spa in Bath, UK last month but missed my reservation due to a train cancellation. Hoping to get there soon though. Agree!!! It is disgusting! Espesh if you are comparing the experience to Japan…Rudas are the most modern if you have to do Budapest but generally its not my favorite…I absolutely love the city and highly recocmend it as a destination for a million other reasons but I d never attempt the baths again after witnessing the dirt, hair everywhere and the day drinking… I‘m only used to clean Austrian thermal baths so I never dared to go to the ones in Budapest because everyone keeps commenting how dirty they are but then there‘s also comments how they‘re fine, so now I‘m confused what people‘s standard of clean is and if it’s really that bad 🥲
Sorry to jump on this thread with a curve ball, I’m heading to Japan later this week, do you have any recommendations for onsens/ sentos? Nozawa Onsen very cute village with skiing and hot springs all over the Peanuts characters Kansas City Chiefs football logo shirt and I love this town. Many hotels have their own as well. Direct buses from Narita. Tiny town in Germany, near the border with Switzerland, called “Meersburg” (near the larger town of Constance), with an amazingly cozy sauna and thermal bath, with nice rustic wooden saunas and outdoors hot pool and access to the huge lake itself! They even do “Nordic Nights” with torches and special scents. You can definitely swim in the lake, and it’s VERY family friendly. Gotta get used to German sauna culture though (mandatory nudity, mixed gender).

I’ve travelled extensively, and also had a Japan trip mostly for “hunting down” rural onsen, and been to (amazing) Budapest as well, but outside iceland, I haven’t seen such a cozy and outsoorsy spa/sauna ANYWHERE else! The Tatras Mountains in Poland. We went to Chocholowskie Termy in Zakopane, and it was incredible. Clean, efficient, massive hot outdoor bath with a bar and a massive view of the Peanuts characters Kansas City Chiefs football logo shirt and I love this gorgeous mountains. It was cleaner and modernized than the baths we went to in Budapest. Budapest’s thermal baths were still lovely, but the facilities were also, uh, historic. That isn’t a bad thing at all — we thoroughly enjoyed Budapest baths as well. But it’s really about what kind of experience you’re after. If it’s more about the bath/efficiency/nature, then Poland. If it’s traditional, architectural beauty, and history you’re after, then for sure Budapest. I desperately want to visit their ancient baths in Bormio, well really, both of their places there. So glad you mentioned the company, that adds to my determination. Might even splurge and try their NYC one (local to me, but also a lot more expensive than their facilities in Europe).
All of my early spa experiences were in German and Austrian spas where you’re not allowed to wear bathing suits, and now I’m disgusted by wearing a bathing suit to a spa, no matter how fancy it may be. There’s Aquagardens north of Verona which are large and have a variety of baths.I’ve also been to Terme Euganee nearer to Venice which were ok but not as good as Aquardens. Aquardens has a lazy river, a huge indoor pool that leads outside, a cave, foot baths, cold water walks, steam room, a sauna experience, etc. It’s easy to spend the Peanuts characters Kansas City Chiefs football logo shirt and I love this day there, and we do when we get the chance. There’s a heated pool that goes out of the indoor area through a tunnel and overlooks gardens and the mountain range, truly beautiful My best visits were in Erding (near Munich) and the Cave Spa in Miskolc (Hungary), apart from Blumau (Austria) which has been mentioned. Close to Vienna: Therme Oberlaa (Vienna), Römertherme Baden, Linsberg Asia, Bad Waltersdorf, Therme Laa. Near Innsbruck is the Aqua Dome Längenfeld. Omg, fabulous, spent 2/4 days in Tallinn just in the spa. Onsen, plunge lools, themed saunas, steam rooms, lounge areas, rest beds, pools, jacuzzi and a full sized swimming pool. Get the 21+ €32 ticket for unlimted time and access to everything.
Temperature: 100c sauna down to 42c steam rooms (17 of them in all, loved the Peanuts characters Kansas City Chiefs football logo shirt and I love this traditional peat one, and salt spas). They also do free sauna rituals you just join in Wow. I go swimming there, I used to work across the road from the Mustamäe spa. But I have never considered this to be an international “hotspot” 🙂 Széchenyi in Budapest – so and so, looks grand, but overcrowded in peak times, and the staff is somewhat hostile. OK to go if you are in Budapest, but I would not travel there for this alone. Altyn Arashan in Kyrgyzstan. High up in the mountains. This is _the_ strangest spa experience in my life. The scenery is breathtaking, everything else was like Soviet museum from 1970 or so. On top of that there was a group of young hippie mountain climbers from St Petersburg, dancing to Pink Floyd.

Saunas / Onsens in Tbilisi, Georgia. Tbilisi was founded on the springs. In 1970s a flash mud flood from the mountains wiped up four bathhouses with people stuck inside, many people died. Thus the first sauna is now “Sauna no 5”. A must if you are in Tbilisi and like soaking in sulfur. The services (massages etc) are horrible though. I google spas with pools of 42 degree water as well as cold pools to make sure I get what I’m looking for. Found it in other countries in central Europe as well of course and then I mark them in my custom google maps for future trips.
Badeparadies Schwarzwald is this wild sauna pool amusement park in the Peanuts characters Kansas City Chiefs football logo shirt and I love this Black Forest. I think not what you are looking for but it is an insane place. It is a bit remote, but this city: Velingrad have some good hotels: e.g. The city is crap, except one-two restaurants there is nothing to do. However hotels are good and the mineral water is everywhere. For a little extra history with your bath, you could try one one of the baños Arabes in Andalucia, specifically Granada or Málaga. Therme in Bucharest, Romania is amazing. I think it’s Europe’s largest spa and it’s really brilliant, they have loads of saunas, indoor and outdoor pools, steam rooms and loads of other facilities. Also a swim-up bar in the main pool serving really cheap and delicious cocktails
I wouldn’t recommend Szechenyi, felt like a tourist trap and the Peanuts characters Kansas City Chiefs football logo shirt and I love this pools were filthy. You can try south of Vienna it is like €40 for a day ticket (over 16 only). You can also try Therme Wien (Oberlaa) in Vienna… cheaper €30 day ticket… but there are kids, so best to go when they are in school. If you’re willing to get a bit off the beaten trail for international tourists, the Lüneburger Heide region in northern Germany has quite a few nice saline spas. My personal recommendation would be the Jod-Sole-Therme in Bad Bevensen. The Salü in Lüneburg is also an option, and in a more convenient, central location a bit closer to Hamburg. Iceland has a lot of stuff like this, just a pod the touristy crap like the blue lagoon. Worlds biggest Petri dish. Thermae Bath Spa, Bath, England; Baden-Baden, Germany, and, in my opinion, the most beautiful option – The Blue Lagoon in Iceland.
Vals, Switzerland. The bath house is designed by Peter Zumthor, one of the great minimalist architects I’ve ever come across. Looking out over the Swiss countryside at the peak of autumn is one of my core memories. As others have said…. Budapest really does take their bath’s seriously and has something for everyone’s tastes. Iceland. We experienced a wide variety of hot springs from natural “hot pots” in hidden meadows, to riverside hot springs, to hikes with natural hot spring rivers. They were all free and all unique and amazing, most were empty. Budapest and I recommend going to the outdoor pools in winter. It’s cold on the feet but amazing when you get in.

Trumps trade war was a nightmare that we’re still seeing fallout from. Number of hog farms shrunk by 13.3% from 2017-2022. Let’s not even get into how Covid screwed us further while we were down… but I’m all for blue and all for Biden. I won’t dispute that so many families I work alongside actively vote against their own farms. Vast majority of subsidies are on the crop side. We need enforcement of anti competitive practices. And to continue to invest in education so some of my counterparts can work on those critical thinking skills lol

It really messes up our ability to market products in growing markets like China, India, etc. So why would any reasonable self-respecting grower consider voting for Trump after he messed up those trade relations so badly? The Biden administration has been undoing a lot of that the past four years. Whole heartedly agree. My neighbors vote against themselves and don’t see the irony in it.
