All in all, this took like 3-4 months and I ended up not returning back to my work placement as it went past the Ozzie Albies Atlanta Dots Curaçaoan professional baseball second baseman T-Shirt it is in the first place but end. Instead of the jurors coming in to court and waiting around to be selected for a case, they asked the jurors to wait at home and wait for a phone call if we are selected for a case, and only come in if we get a phone call. I never received any phone call so never actually served as a juror. Four days into my two week jury service, they thanked me for my service and I was discharged. A really really nasty child abuse case where the dad was doing his daughters and sharing them. The details were horribly graphic and I wish I hadn’t been picked. One tip that we found useful during the trial was that if a juror had a genuine question or wanted something clarifying you could write a note and it would be passed to the judge.

Rock up, sign in, stand about in a corridor for 2 hours, go into courtroom, get told they are talking about legal issues so come back at 1pm. Get back at 1pm, stand about for another 2 hours. Day 3 they said don’t bother coming in but you need to be ready if we need you. So I sat around doing nothing at home. I was on a jury for a domestic abuse case around 2018ish. The experience itself was really interesting, but the case was a bit harrowing. The defendant was quite possibly the stupidest man I’ve ever seen – a major component of the prosecution’s evidence were videos he filmed himself of his extremely distressed teenage girlfriend (he was in his 30s) trying to get herself and their baby out of a locked house while he monologued about how “crazy” she was and how he was filming her to report to social services. I won’t go into the details, but her condition made it clear they were filmed immediately following attacks on her person. From what I could tell, social services had been involved since the baby was born, but the mum really was trying her best. There was an incident involving the baby’s safety relayed in evidence from a social worker but it really stuck with me that when asked “Well what was Mum doing then, if this was such a dangerous situation?” by the defense lawyer, the social worker replied “She was the one who phoned us. She was beside me the whole time, telling him she would do go with him and do whatever he wanted but please just give the baby to me so he could be taken somewhere warm and dry”. Broke my fucking heart honestly.
