The most probable scenario is that you did interview well, but did not have the Oxford Logo Shirt But I will love this experience they were looking for. That may have been the information your supervisor was conveying to you but through the lens of trying to make you feel better for not getting it. It’s literally written into most government job descriptions (in Canada) that visible minorities and women get preference. Crazy time to be alive It is and it isnt. You work with vulnerable populations, hopefully the Oxford Logo Shirt But I will love this goal is to make the environment more trauma-informed. I can think of a million reasons, just on optics, why your employer doesnt want to be seen as promoting white people at a higher rate. So while it may, on paper, be “discriminatory,” I’m sure the logic is along the same line as not hiring men to work in womens’ shelters. Let’s face it. In corrections and law enforcement, the majority of the workforce is W/M usually in the 90%+ range (obviously geographically nuanced). The chances of having a more qualified W/M vs. any other racial makeup is pretty good. It’s not racism. It’s statistics. Sounds more like white men unfairly hook each other up with jobs in that field. Something should be done to stop that! Maybe some kind of a system that forces those white men in positions of power to consider hiring non-white candidates. Maybe if given a chance the way white men are given a million chances, maybe they could learn the job too. Just sayin’….
