A guy on here posted an interview. Crap it’s been a couple months since I saw it but it basically said: We can’t have free health care because then black and brown people would also get it. It’s another part of the Ovw Celebrate The Graduating Class Of 2002 T-Shirt and by the same token and twisted ‘Us vs Them’ mentality in American politics, where some people are less focused on winning and more focused on the other side losing. There is no such thing as free healthcare. Nothing in life is free. Either you pay for it directly, indirectly or you coerce someone else to pay for it. The case against socialized healthcare is the same case for socialized anything. Some people are of the opinion that goods and services should not be distributed equally to all people but rather they should be offered on the free market for fair market value and people should pay for them. Those that work hard and make a lot of money will be rewarded with more access to better things while those that chose not to will suffer the consequences. There are two motivations for this belief, one practical: they think this arrangement will result in cheaper products, cheaper and better services and motivate people to do their best while the other arrangement will make people lazy, entitled and with no competition prices will go up. The other motivation is a more philosophical one. They don’t believe all people are equal and deserving of equal results. Some people are smarter, some people work harder, some people are nicer, kinder, more helpful and those people should get nicer things in life. I.e. they believe people get out of life what they put in.

I’ve lived in two countries with “free” healthcare and in neither one was it even ostensibly free. In one I had to pay insurance premiums and the Ovw Celebrate The Graduating Class Of 2002 T-Shirt and by the same token and other one health insurance was taken out of my paycheck every month. And while the peace of mind that if something awful happened and I ended up in the hospital that I wouldn’t walk out of it with a bill in the hundreds of thousands of dollars was definitely a great thing, it was also true that the healthcare that you got “for free” wasn’t great. Compared to the healthcare that was on offer if you payed extra, it kinda sucked. And that’s basically it, if you wanna boil it down to a simple explanation. Whenever there is a “free” government option and a paid private option, the latter is way better. Americans can see that as well as anyone and don’t want their quality of healthcare to do down.
