Most games can be played through in you standard 30-40 hours. If you are annoyed by 100h side quest. dont. do. them. IMHO it should be illegal to sell a game that has F2P mechanics underneath, i.e. additional purchases for items /skins. I also think early access sales have become the norm to excuse poor development while giving an early exit strategy if interest is low, i.e. development becomes portportional to presales, so full price for half baked games.

It should also be illegal to have DLC premade for a game release (at a cost). That’s just them giving you a smaller game for something they’ve already made and should have been whole. Attaching a cash price becomes “insert dollar, receive dopamine.” No shit it’s a billion-dollar industry built on charging $8 for an imaginary hat. The fact imaginary hats are “just cosmetic” and “not important” doesn’t make that obvious abuse better. Maximum revenue now comes from addiction and frustration. Now they make more money if you’re constantly miserable. Misery fuels coughing up more money. MMOs could be skeezy as hell, but at least the addiction was supposed to be fun. Arcades charged for a weird skill-check rental. CCGs cost money because cardboard costs money. Every tired comparison is obviously less of a weaponized frustration engine than this, and this is eating video games, as a concept. It’s in full-price games. It’s in flagship franchises. It’s in every genre. It’s in single-player games. It will not stop until we make it stop.
